At Grays Harbor Country Club, Aberdeen and Hoquiam’s girls golf teams braved the weather and got back into the swing of the spring season in their annual rivalry dual meet on Monday afternoon.
MacKayla Waltee easily captured medalist honors, with a round that included a tap-in birdie on the final hole, to guide the Bobcats to an 88-45 win over the Grizzlies.
Using the Stableford Scoring System, Waltee topped the field with a 28. On the final hole of the day, Waltee used a driver on the par-3 ninth hole and nearly sank a hole-in-one. She ended up with a tap-in birdie.
“She was excited,” AHS head coach Dan Sundstrom said. “It rained. It would downpour, then be sunny. Then downpour again and then be sunny. It wasn’t all that bad. It was a good match to get back into (the season).”
Josie Emery led Hoquiam with an 11.
On Wednesday, Aberdeen travels to Centralia. On Thursday, Hoquiam travels to King’s Way Christian.
