GIRLS PREP SOCCER
Napavine 2, Ocosta 1 (OT)
The Ocosta Wildcats lost 2-1 to Napavine on a penalty kick in the second minute of overtime on Monday at Napavine High School.
Ocosta (3-4-1 overall, 0-1-0 Pacific 2B) took a 1-0 lead when Kianna Battiste scored on a pass from Katelynn Denny in the 23rd minute.
But Napavine (4-4-1, 1-0-0) tied the Pacific League contest at 1-1 with a goal just seven minutes later.
Ocosta let two golden opportunities to take a lead slip away by missing two penalty kicks, allowing the game to go into overtime.
The Tigers converted their opportunity early in the first overtime to secure the victory.
Ocosta head coach Mike King said too many defensive mistakes hurt a Wildcats team that had no reserves available for play on Monday.
“We came ready to play but committed too many fouls in the defensive end,” King said. “The girls gave it everything they have, but we’re shorthanded this week.”
Ocosta plays on the road in Toledo at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ocosta 1 0 0 — 1
Napavine 0 1 1 — 2
