Aberdeen’s Garcia, Nelson place at Oregon Relays

Bobcats standouts earn two top-10 finishes at prestigious meet

Two of Aberdeen High School’s top track and field stars competed against a premiere field of athletes from across the west coast at the Athletic.net Oregon Relays Friday through Saturday at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.

Competing against participants from top programs from states such as Oregon, Idaho and California, Garcia and Nelson represented the Twin Harbors in fine fashion.

Garcia, a junior, placed 20th out of 57 runners in the boys varsity 400-meter race with a time of 50.59.

Garcia had a top-10 finish in long jump with a leap of 6.48 meters to finish 10th out of 35 competitors.

Nelson, a senior, continued his fine start to the season by running a time of 1:55.37 to place seventh out of 68 runners in the boys 800 meters.

Nelson’s time ranks as the seventh best across all classes in Washington state this season.
