BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

Onalaska 56, Ocosta 51

Big shots down the stretch spelled defeat for the Ocosta Wildcats in a 56-51 non-league loss to Onalaska on Monday in Westport.

Ocosta (6-6 overall, 6-4 Pacific 2B) was locked in a tie ballgame with approximately five minutes left, but Onalaska players hit big shots — including two 3-pointers — over the next two minutes to take a lead they’d never relinquish.

“We had a few missed, close shots that could have altered the outcome that didn’t fall for us,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said before turning to the positive. “We rebounded extremely well tonight, … Last time we played Ony we lost 91-47, so (Monday’s game) was a huge improvement on our end.”

Cole Hatton scored a game-high 19 points to lead Ocosta.

Richard Dueber added 12 points for the Wildcats.

Alex Frazier led the Loggers (7-5) with 18 points.

Quinby said he’s hoping to see more consistency from his team as they get deeper into the second half of the league schedule.

“Still waiting to put together a full four quarters of solid basketball, but getting closer to that goal,” he said. “Much better team effort tonight as all of our supplemental stats were very spread out amongst the team.”

Ocosta hosts Raymond at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

PREP BOWLING

Shelton 5, Aberdeen 0

Despite a solid series from top-bowler Iliana Mercado-George, the Aberdeen Bobcats were upended by Shelton 5-0 on Monday at Westside Lanes in Olympia.

Mercado-George bowled a consistent 169 and 170 in her two games for a match-best total of 339 to lead the Bobcats. Her second-game score of 170 was tied with Shelton’s Dreann Merriman and Kaylee Slone for top single-game score of the contest.

Three Shelton bowlers scored a 300 series or better, paced by Slone’s 326.

Aberdeen’s Bryerlee Perry was noted by head coach Dave Bruncke for bowling “well above her average” with a series score of 283.

Aberdeen lost Game 1, 716-684, and Game 2, 757-633.

“Overall, our first game was good and then we dropped off after that,” Bruncke said. “To beat Shelton, we would have to have scored more than we ever have in the past. Today was not that day for us.”

The loss puts the Bobcats at 7-5 this season and 4-2 in the 2A Evergreen League, one game behind WF West for second place.

The Bobcats will face WF West at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Rainier Lanes.
