BOYS PREP SOCCER
Rochester 1, Aberdeen 0
A late penalty-kick goal was the difference as Aberdeen fell to Rochester 1-0 on Wednesday in Aberdeen.
The Bobcats (2-3 overall, 1-2 2A Evergreen) out shot Rochester (3-3, 3-1) 19-2 in the match, but a lack of precise passing and ball control at the end of possessions “left a lot of goals unfinished that could have put the game out of reach,” according to Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming.
When the Bobcats did get shots on goal, their aim was off. Aberdeen hit two crossbars in the match and had several shots miss wide by mere inches, leading to a scoreless tie with 15 minutes remaining in the second half.
That’s when a hand ball in Aberdeen’s 18-yard box gave Rochester a penalty kick, which was converted to put the Cats down 1-0 in the 65th minute.
“Our effort was there but we did not look good on the ball and our decision making throughout the game was very poor,” said Fleming, who cited the play of forward Evan Cone and senior defender Isaiah Johnson for their performances. “We will have to work on our touch more in practice and try to play better the next time.”
Aberdeen faces Tumwater at 7 p.m. on Friday in Tumwater.
