ALLEN, Texas – With four wrestlers earning All-American status, Grays Harbor College placed 10th in the NCWA nationals last weekend in Texas.
Grays Harbor’s Josh Pine went 6-2 for the tourney to place fourth at 157 pounds. Jesse Torres, at 125 pounds, Forks High graduate Jack Dahlgren at 197 and Damon Thomas at 141 each placed seventh with 5-2 records.
The top eight at each weight received All-American honors. Choker 285-pounder Octavio Alejandre was one win away from placing in the top eight.
The Chokers compiled 87 1/2 points. Liberty University of Virginia won the tourney with 157 points.
“The team finished the season strong, competing in a national tournament comprised mainly of four-year universities,” GHC coach Phillip Pine noted.
Josh Pine (the nephew of the coach) and 174-pounder Andy Gonzalez earned Academic All-American honors. With a team grade point average of better than 3.0, Grays Harbor was recognized as one of the top 10 academic teams in the tourney.
