Grays Harbor College snapped a long losing streak with a win in a four-game weekend series against Clark College.

Grays Harbor College opened a four-game weekend set against Clark College with a 7-1 loss on Saturday in Vancouver.

The Chokers (3-28 overall, 1-11 NWAC West) scored their lone run of the game when catcher Jean Michael Dejesus scored on a groundout off the bat of second baseman Derek Homer in the top of the sixth inning.

GHC starting pitcher Kobe Frazier took the loss, allowing six runs – five earned – on four hits and three walks with a strikeout in 3 2-3 innings pitched.

Chokers relievers Matthew Alexander (3.1 IP, R, ER, 4H, 5BB, K) and Braden Ellis (IP, 0R, 2H, K) combined to allow one earned run over 4 1-3 innings pitched.

Grays Harbor College gave up five earned runs en route to a 9-3 loss to Clark in the nightcap on Saturday in Vancouver.

Though both teams had the same amount of base hits in the game with eight, the Chokers allowed five unearned runs in the game, four alone in the Penguins’ six-run fifth inning.

GHC scored a run when former Montesano standout Kaleb Ames scored on an error.

Four Chokers pitchers combined to allow eight hits and nine walks in the game with four strikeouts.

Ames led GHC with three hits while left fielder Jaden Herwick went 2 for 3 for GHC.

Grays Harbor 6, Clark 5

Grays Harbor snapped a 22 game losing streak with a 6-5 win over Clark College in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.

The Chokers led 1-0 after right fielder Kobe Frazier drove in outfielder Kaleb Ames with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

But fortunes turned bleak for GHC in the top of the eighth as the Penguins (11-12, 4-4) scored five runs on just two hits as Chokers pitchers walked in a run and forced across two more run on consecutive hit batsmen.

But the GHC offense rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame on a Frazier RBI double followed later by a two-run double off the bat of first baseman Kellen Willer to cut the lead to 5-4.

With the tying and winning runs on base down to their final out, Will Scharf singled to scored Calvin Curio and Jaden Herwick to give the Chokers the walk-off victory.

Matthew Alexander picked up the win, pitching a scoreless ninth inning of relief for GHC.

Former Montesano standout Skylar Bove started the game, allowing three hits and a pair of walks while striking out five in 5 2-3 scoreless innings for the Chokers.

Grays Harbor’s weekend ended with a 14-0 six-inning loss to Clark on Sunday in Hoquiam.

GHC fell behind after the Penguins scored three runs in the top of the second and fell behind double-digits after allowing 10 runs in the third.

Two Chokers pitchers allowed 14 earned runs on nine hits and eight walks with three strikeouts.

Five different Chokers had a single in the game.

GHC hosts Centralia for a four-game series starting at 1 p.m. on Friday in Hoquiam.
