SEASIDE, Ore. — Elma’s comeback ran out of time literally on Saturday. The Eagles had scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and had runners on second and third base with no outs when a time limit ended their non-league contest in a 4-4 tie with Marshfield of Coos Bay, Ore., in Seaside, Ore.
With several games being postponed on Friday, a one hour and 50 minute time limit was enforced for all games on Saturday. While the Eagles were happy to be able to play their first game this season, they would have liked to spend just a bit more time on the field.
“I’m really happy with the effort and the defense that we had,” Elma coach Todd Baun said. “Both of our errors were errant pick off throws so we really didn’t have any defensive errors. Our pitchers were on pitch counts and all of them threw well for the first game of the season.”
Baun cited Cody Robinette and Tysen Richardson for their performances.
Elma (0-0-1) will play at 9 a.m. today in Seaside.
