Elma forward Beta Valentine and Montesano forward/midfielder Mikayla Stanfield were named co-Most Valuable Players as the 1A Evergreen League announced its all-league team for the 2023 season.
Valentine’s performance this season was once again spectacular as the quick and talented junior had a league-best 23 goals to go along with 13 assists for the Eagles.
Stanfield – a Gonzaga commit – was named a league MVP for the third-consecutive season after scoring 10 goals with two assists before an injury caused her to miss the final eight games of the regular season.
Montesano senior midfielder Bethanie Henderson was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year after a standout season where she led the the Bulldogs with 1,107 minutes played and recorded 12 goals and two assists.
Elma holding midfielder Eliza Sibbett was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year for the 2023 campaign. Known for her uncanny ability to separate opponents from the ball and retain possession, Sibbett scored two goals and two assists for an Eagles team that recorded 12 shutouts this season.
“She’s tough as nails, always gives 100% effort and is a good captain the whole team looks up to,” Elma head coach Evan Valentine said. “She will be greatly missed. Both as a person and as a player.”
The Goalkeeper of the Year honor went to Montesano senior Riley Timmons, who made 58 saves for a Bulldogs teams that faced the toughest schedule in the 1A class this season.
The First Team featured a plethora of the Twin Harbors’ top prep athletes, including Elma goalkeeper Emmie Spencer (4 goals allowed), forward Valerie Echeverria and senior defender Diana Guzman; Hoquiam senior defender Briana Herrera; and Montesano midfielders Sam Roundtree (2 G, A), Alexa Stanfield and Addi Kersker.
