With a combined total of 270 points, the Elma Eagles track and field team earned its third consecutive county championship at the Grays Harbor All County Meet held at Terry Huggins Memorial Track in Westport on Saturday.

Led by its girls team, which scored a meet best 162 points, Elma compiled 11 first-place finishes on the day, including a sweep of the girls relay races.

Jillian Bieker led Elma with three event victories. The junior swept the girls hurdles races and claimed a victory in the long jump over teammate Maddi Clark.

The Eagles boys team was led by junior Cody Vollan, who won both the 200- and 400-meter races. Vollan also anchored Elma’s victorious boys 4×400-meter relay team, which defeated second-place Ocosta by more than 10 seconds.

“(I’m) pretty excited about winning our third straight all county

championship,” Elma head coach Bryan Schneider said. “The weather was terrible for the second year in a row and we had every athlete compete in all their events. We talked on the bus beforehand about embracing the weather with a ‘bring it on’ attitude. We had many athletes step it up big time. It wasn’t about personal records today, it was about placings.”

Aberdeen finished second in the overall standings. The Bobcats scored a total of 247.5 points, led by its boys team which scored 142.5 points to beat Hoquiam’s boys by 25.5 points.

Speaking of Hoquiam, the Grizzlies placed third overall in the county with 229 points as both the Hoquiam boys and girls teams took second place in the meet.
