Elma freshman golfer Olivia Moore shot the low two-day total to best the field at the 1A District 4 Girls Golf Championships May 15-16 at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course.
Moore’s two-day total of 155 beat defending district champion and last season’s state runner-up, Montesano standout Hailey Blancas, by seven strokes to claim the district title in her first season.
“So happy to help bring a district title back to Elma,” Moore said on her Instagram account. “Thankful for my team and coaches. In my freshman year, I’ve medalled in every event so far. Can’t wait for the state championships next week.”
“She’s playing awesome golf,” Elma head coach Alexis Keating said of Moore. “I’m very excited for her.”
Moore got off to a great start with the lowest round of the competition on Day 1, shooting a 77 to set the tone for the tournament.
She followed that performance with a consistent 78 the following day to claim the title.
Moore, along teammate and fellow state-qualifier Sophia Hamilton (97-92–189, 5th-tie), Aubrey Moore (105-93–198, 8th) and Camberly Burgess (103-103–206, 12th) led Elma to a total of 67.5 points, 10.5 points better than Montesano to claim the district’s team title.
Blancas placed second, shooting 79 on Day 1 and an 83 in round two for a total of 162 to lead defending-champion Monte to a second-place finish.
Monte’s Maggi Kupka (98-99–197, 7th) and Jessie Lalonde (100-102–202, 10th) made the cut to help the Bulldogs score a total of 57 points.
The top five golfers in the district qualified for the state meet.
In addition to Olivia Moore, Blancas and Hamilton, other state qualifiers were King’s Way Christian’s Gracie Harlow (84-82–166, 3rd), La Center’s Sabrina Joner (92-84–176, 4th) and Hoquiam’s Eva Jump (96-93–189, 5th-tie).
