Storming from behind in the fourth quarter, Aberdeen topped Capital in a non-league game Friday at Sam Benn Gym.
Down by as many as 12 at one stage, the Bobcats (2-0) trailed 33-26 entering the final period. But they limited Capital to five points in the period while beating the Cougar press for transition baskets.
Kyra Gallinger’s 3-point shot gave Aberdeen a four-point lead with about three minutes left.
“That was the turning point,” AHS coach Jeff Niemi reported. “From then on, we shut them down.”
Dani Buckman scored 14 points and Reagan Glanz accounted for 12 points and 19 rebounds for Aberdeen. Mari Rabung pulled down 11 boards for the Bobcats.

PUYALLUP — Host Chief Leschi nailed five of its seven 3-point baskets to get back into this Pacific 2B League contest with North Beach, but the Hyaks had enough of a lead to hold on for the victory on Friday night.
Led by Reilly Moore’s 15 points and Helen Garman’s double-double — 12 points and 14 rebounds — the Hyaks led 24-8 at the half. The Warriors used a pressure defense, according to North Beach assistant coach Jessica Preisinger, to get back into the game in the second half.

In its first year of girls basketball, Chief Kitsap suited up only five players. When one of its players was sidelined due to injury, Taholah coach Karl Braden removed one of his players and agreed to play four-on-four for the final 12 minutes.

Gema Ochoa added six points. Kat Neeland picked off eight steals and was credited with a strong effort by first-year head coach Chris Christiansen.

Erika Snider and Kristi Raffelson each had nine points, with Kaylee Barnum pulling in 11 rebounds and swiping seven steals for the Wildcats.
“It was full-court pressure and lots of turnovers,” Ocosta head coach Jason Barnum said. “It was just our second game of the year. It is tough to prepare for that.”

PENDLETON, Ore. — Pulling away in the fourth quarter, Grays Harbor College raced past Blue Mountain in a non-divisional game Friday at Pendleton.
Alexia Thrower scored 29 points and Monet Salazar 27 to pace the Chokers.
Shooting 59 percent from the field, the Chokers (3-3) overcame 29 turnovers, 30 personal fouls and a tepid 20-of-44 performance from the foul line.
“Those are all combinations for disaster, but our effort saved the day,” GHC coach Chad Allan said. “We can be dangerous if we play better defense. Imagine how much we could score if we only turned it over 10 times.”
Bria Buchanan pulled down 11 rebounds and Katie Brisbios 10 for GHC.

OLYMPIA — Capital took command early to thump Aberdeen in a non-league game Friday at Olympia.
The Cougars led 41-16 at the half and the running-clock mercy rule was imposed in the third quarter.
“They came out with a lot of pressure. We weren’t ready for it and we weren’t able to get into the rhythm of the game we planned,” Bobcat coach Mark Buckman said. “Our defensive effort was very poor. We lacked defensive intensity throughout the first half.”
Victor Gomez was Aberdeen’s lone double-digit scorer with 11 points.
Buckman praised the reserve work of Alonzo Coburn, Harlan Troy and Jake Metke.

Pirates 88, Eagles 57
ADNA — Well-balanced Adna erupted in the second half to trounce Elma in a non-league game Friday at Adna.
The Pirates had five players score in double figures, led by Tanner Rigdon’s 21 points.
The Eagles (1-2) trailed by only nine (42-33) at the half. Foul trouble and an injury to starter Cody Vollan, however, depleted forces that were already at less than full strength. Elma suited up only seven players in this one.
“We played the second half with six kids,” Elma coach Marvin Prince said. “They went on a big, big run in the third quarter and that was the end of it. We battled for three quarters and we got tired.”
Avery Brown and Trace Thompson scored 15 points apiece, while A.J. Brown and Sohtye Tep added 10 points each for Elma.

Ilwaco also made 10-of-11 free throws in the second quarter alone.
“(Bannister’s) 3-pointers and the foul-line disparity in those quarters were the difference in the game,” Ocosta coach Jason Quinby said.
Zach Allton, Kobe Beck and Drake Mitby scored nine points apiece to top Ocosta (0-1, 2-1).
