Black Hills came up with more timely hits than Aberdeen to come away with the Evergreen 2A Conference victory at the Bishop Athletic Center on Friday.
The Bobcats (0-1, 0-2) tied the game up 5-5 after four innings, but the Tigers plated four runs in the fifth to create the winning margin.
“We just couldn’t produce when we needed to produce,” Aberdeen head coach Scott Wilson said. “We had a few chances to shut them down, we just couldn’t do it. We can’t ever take a play off and that cost us a couple times today by taking a play off.”
Wilson cited Jalyn McDaniel for her defensive play and Sierra Hammond, who had three hits, for her performance at the plate.
Aberdeen will host Tumwater on April 10.

Titans sweep
TOLEDO — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley continued its early season domination by sweeping Toledo, 18-0 and 15-0, in a Central 2B League doubleheader Friday at Toledo.
Both games were decided in three innings by the 15-run mercy rule. The Titans (5-0) have outscored their opponents 71-0 this season.
“We’re just tearing it up at the plate right now,” PWV coach Ken Olson said. “I can’t say enough about how the team’s playing.”
Winning pitcher Dakota Brooks helped her own cause with three hits in the opening game.
Grace Hodel homered and Sid Pollard and Brittany Patrick knocked in three runs apiece for the Titans in the nightcap.
The Titans return to action April 8 by visiting Morton-White Pass.

FORKS — Forks woke up the bats early to score 12 runs in the first inning and roll past Lake Quinault in a non-league contest on Friday.
The Elks (2-2) struggled to be able to catch up to the pitching of Forks’ Bailee Kratzer.
“We just came out flat and gave up a big first inning and couldn’t come back from it,” Lake Quinault pitcher Carlee Larson said. “Kratzer pitched a good game and controlled the game.”
Larson cited Alex Blackburn, who had three hits, for her performance.
Lake Quinault travels to Oakville on April 10.

Titans 10, Vikings 4
PE ELL — Erupting for seven runs in its final two innings, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley beat Mossyrock in a Central 2B League game Friday at Pe Ell.
The Titans (2-3) trailed 4-3 after 4 1/2 innings. Kaelin Jurek’s leadoff homer, however, ignited a three-run PWV outburst in the bottom of the fifth.
“That just gave us the momentum,” PWV coach Kelly Barnum said. “We basically piled it on from there.”
Jurek, Tyson Nissell and Luke Gerow had three hits apiece for Titans. Cub Bair picked up the victory, in relief of starter Jurek.
The Titans travel to Randle on April 8 to face Morton-White Pass.

GIRLS TENNIS
Bulldogs split
TUMWATER — Class 2A Black Hills swept the doubles to top Montesano, 4-2, in a non-league match Friday at Tumwater.
The Bulldogs had opened Southwest Washington 1A League competition Thursday by trouncing Tenino, 4-1.
Montesano (1-0, 2-1) turned in an extremely competitive showing against Black Hills. Monte’s Emily Bodenhamer and Fatima Torres won singles matches and the Bulldogs pushed two of the three doubles to three sets.
Bodenhamer, Torres and Rachel Ayres swept the singles against Tenino. Ayres prevailed 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles match.
“I was happy to get the win and I was just as happy to get better competition (Friday),” Bulldog coach Teresa Helland said.
The Bulldogs return to action April 11 at home against Castle Rock.
