Raymond boys win team title
RAYMOND – Raymond’s boys won on total points and North Beach had a solid effort in its second-place finish on the girls side at the Pacific League Sub-District meet on Friday.
McCartney Maden had a personal-record time of 15.83 in the 110-meter hurdles and reached another personal-record time (42.03) in the 300-meter hurdles to win both events.
Maden was on a 4×100 relay team that took first place as well.
The Gulls also got a contribution from Marcus Anderson who won the long jump (20-07) and took gold in the high jump (6-0).
North beach had a few winners with Ben Poplin take the top spot in the shot put (47-09) and Marcus Pope who won the javelin with a school-record throw of 155-09.
Brendan Chaney topped out at 13 feet in the pole vault to win the event and help the team score.
Ben Byington came up with a win in the 100 meters for South Bend and had his best time when he crossed the line at 11.7 seconds.
Preston Lawhead won the 400 meters with a time of 53.27 and Logan Stamos finished first in the triple jump (40-10).
South Bend’s Hannah Byington won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84 and won the 200 meters (26.66) for the Indian’s only wins on the girls side.
North Beach’s Lorin Cox was close behind Byington in the 200, finishing with a second-place time of 26.91 for a Hyaks school-record.
Willapa Valley’s Hannah Cook won the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 15.89.
Raymond’s Karlee Freeman won all three throwing events she entered with victories in the shot put (44-08), the discus (160-01) and the javelin (114-00).
Ocosta’s Alvin Marsh and Devyn Martin finished first and second in the high jump with distances of 4-10 and 4-06, respectively.
North Beach’s Mariah Vogler set a season record with a distance of 33-06.75 in the triple jump in her winning effort.
Monte, Hoquiam win league titles
MONTESANO – Monte and Hoquiam won the boys and girls teams scores, respectively at the Evergreen 1A Championship Sub-District meet on Friday.
Bryce Whipple won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.4 seconds and Donovan Albert took the 400 meters at 51.65.
Both athletes were part of a winning 4×100 relay team that finished with a time of 44.68 and a 4×400 team that grabbed gold with a time of 3:35.33.
Monte got wins in the field events with Gage Iverson winning the long jump (20-03) and Sam Winter finishing first in the triple jump with a new personal record (43-06.5).
Conner Hollatz added a win in the javelin with a distance of 140-07.
Hoquiam got wins in the 800 meters thanks to a personal-record time of 2:13.48 and Adam Peterson won the 1600 meters (4:55.23)
Peterson also won the 3200 meters and reached a new personal record (10:49.62).
Antonio Garcia won the 110-meter hurdles and hit a new personal-record time at 16.16.
Luta Felten got the Grizzlies’ win in the field events in the pole vault with a winning height of 11-06.
Elma got its wins from Jaedy Edenstrom who hit a personal record in the 300-meter hurdles (42.95) and Ben Bridge who won the shot put at 50-06.25 to set a personal best.
Hoquiam’s girls had the top team score and got wins from Alexis Delahanty in the pole vault at 7-06 to set a personal best.
Freshman Sharaya Brydeon also set a personal record in her high jump victory (4-09) and Karlie Krohn won the javelin at 119-05.
Hoquiam’s 4×200 relay team took gold with a time of 1:52.20.
Elma saw the top of the podium with a win from Jayla Mason (13.36) in the 100 and Jillian Bieker who won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.78.
Bieker also set a season record with a time of 16-00.25 in the long jump to get the win in that event.
Elma’s relay team pulled out a narrow victory and won with a time of 53.20 to beat out a Hoquiam team that finished with a time of 53.59.
Jaylyn Sackrider earned wins in the shot put and discus with distances of 37-01.50 and 102-00, respectively.
Montesano freshman Alma Muro took the 200-meter dash (28.04) and Madolyn Olson reached a new personal record at 1:02.09 in the 400 meters.
Elizabeth Peterson won both medium-distance races, coming away victorious in the 800 meters (2:32.26) and the 1600 meters (5:40.80).
She was also part of a winning 4×400 relay team that crossed the finish line with a time of 4:21.15.
Baseball
Hoquiam eliminated from districts with loss to La Center
CASTLE ROCK — The Grizzlies gave up a big inning and couldn’t recover against La Center in their 6-2 loss on Friday.
The season-ending loss came after La Center put up a four-spot in the third inning to put Hoquiam in a 4-1 deficit.
The Grizzlies scratched across a run in the sixth inning on a hit from Sean McAlister but couldn’t get closer despite matching La Center’s hit total.
Following the loss Hoquiam head coach Steve Jump wanted to thank his seven seniors for their hard work and expressed gratitude for the support his program received this year.
“I want to thank the parents and the community for the support. I am blessed with a great group of coaches,” he said.

Ocosta advances with extra-inning win
ADNA — Cole Hatton’s RBI single in the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Wildcats to a 4-1 victory over Toutle Lake in the 2B District Tournament on Friday.
Ocosta added two more runs in the eighth when Isaac O’Hagan belted a single, scoring Hatton and Harley Figueroa.
With the win, Ocosta (19-4) qualified for the state tournament and will play in the district’s 3rd-4th place game against Kalama at 1 p.m. today at WF West High School.
“It was a signature win for us,” Ocosta head coach Mike Allton said. “This is huge for our school and our program.”

Softball
Hoquiam edges Ocosta in slug-fest
HOQUIAM — In a game that had a total of 12 home runs, the Hoquiam Grizzlies edged the Ocosta Wildcats 21-20 on Friday.
Ocosta’s Kaylee Barnum had four home runs and nine RBI in the loss while little sister Lilly went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI for the Wildcats.
Hoquiam’s Maddie German and Abbi Spradlin each went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI.
ReyLynn Dunn had a solo homer and four RBI for the Grizzlies while Erica Snider also had a three-run home run in the ballgame for Hoquiam.
“People went to a softball game and a home-run derby broke out,” quipped Hoquiam head coach Keith Reynvaan, who added that the slug-fest actually ended on a good defensive play.
With the go-ahead run at the plate in the form of Ocosta’s Mekenna Fletcher, Hoquiam pitcher Tauni Hilliard enduced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to secure the victory.
