Ocosta had arguably its best performance of the season in defeating Raymond 72-50 on Friday at Raymond High School.
The Wildcats (7-7 overall, 4-3 2 B Pacific) pulled into a tie for third place in the 2B Pacific League with Raymond (8-7, 4-3) after erupting for 30 points in the second quarter and playing aggressive on both sides of the court.
Trailing 13-11 at the end of one period, Ocosta outscored Raymond 30-13 in the second quarter led by 10 points from senior Xander Prigmore and eight points from senior Mark Lewis.
Ocosta would pull away on the back of its defense, taking a 57-34 lead entering the fourth quarter after holding Raymond to just eight points in the third.
Ocosta shot 27 of 60 from the field (45%) and went 12 of 18 from the free-throw line (67%).
By contrast, Raymond shot 38% from the floor on 19-of-50 shooting, including 5 of 21 from the 3-point line (24%).
“Well, we finally put a full game together where both our inside and outside game was working,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased with the effort from everyone that played tonight. It was definitely our most well-rounded game.”
Four players scored in double figures for Ocosta led by Lewis with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Prigmore (15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and senior guard Josh Figueroa (15 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals) added 15 points apiece while sophomore Tarren Lewis added 14 points, five rebounds and two assists for Ocosta, which had 18 assists as a team.
“Ocosta played great and deserved to win,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “They got every loose ball and controlled the tempo throughout the game. We didn’t handle their pressure well and forced up too many quick shots because of it. Hopefully, we can take some lessons from this one and get back on track next week.”
Raymond plays at Ilwaco while Ocosta hosts Chief Leschi in 2B Pacific League action. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Tenino 73, Elma 63
Tenino had too much offense in handing Elma its first league loss in a 73-63 defeat on Friday in Tenino.
The Eagles (9-5, 2-1 1A Evergreen) fell behind by nine points at the end of the first quarter and entered the final period trailing 62-45.
Austin Gonia (24 points, 14 rebounds), Nathan Schow (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Keegan O’Conner (16 points) each scored in double figures for the Beavers (9-5, 3-1), which hit 11 3-pointers as a team.
Gonia and Schow alone outrebounded the Eagles, which had 24 rebounds as a team.
“We finally get the feel the sting of a league loss. Our league is going to be a competitive gauntlet. Every night you have to bring your A-game or you are going to get smacked,” Elma head coach Matt Ferrier said. “Tonight, we got punched in the gut by an extremely good Tenino team. They shot the ball extremely well. They dominated us on the glass and basically outplayed us. … Every time we would make a run to climb back in we would blow an assignment, miss a rebound, take a poor-timed shot. You can’t come back against good teams taking possessions off.”
Elma was led by guards Traden Carter and Cason Seaberg with 21 points apiece and shot 42% from the field on 27-of-64 shooting as a team.
With the loss, Elma falls into third place in the league standings, a half-game behind the Beavers.
Elma hosts league-leading Eatonville at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Despite a big scoring night from all-state candidate Michael Lorton Watkins, Hoquiam lost to league-leading Eatvonille 85-76 on Friday at Eatonville High School.
The Grizzlies (9-4, 1-3 1A Evergreen) were knotted up 18-all with the Cruisers (7-5, 3-0) after one quarter and trailed 40-31 at the half before climbing back in the game with a 23-17 third quarter, paced by Lorton Watkins’ 11 points in the period.
Trailing by just three points entering the fourth quarter, Hoquiam couldn’t pull off the comeback as Eatonville scored 28 points in the frame to secure the victory.

The Bobcats (2-11, 2-5 2A Evergreen) fell behind 21-2 after the first quarter and — despite outscoring the Wolves (9-5, 6-1) 21-15 in the second quarter — fell behind 52-29 after scoring just five points in the third period.

Centralia 54, Montesano 40
Montesano’s struggles continued as the Bulldogs lost their fourth-straight game 54-40 to Centralia on Friday in Centralia.
Monte (3-11) led 9-2 early in the game before falling behind 29-22 at the half.
The Bulldogs scored six points while being outscored by four in the third quarter against the Tigers (2-10), which snapped a seven-game losing streak with the victory.
Montesano was shorthanded entering the game with both Jaxson Wilson and Cam Taylor unavailable due to injury and illness, respectively.
Further hampering Montesano’s problems was leading-scorer Tyce Peterson being in foul trouble in the second half.
“Tough loss tonight. Played strong and then lost energy and went away from our assignments defensively,” Monte head coach Mack Bertram said. “We showed about four minutes of great attentiveness and effort and that won’t get the job done no matter who your opponent is and, unfortunately, that showed tonight.”
Peterson led Monte with 15 points.
Christian Olsen (9 points), Trent Adams (8 points), Brian Stevenson (4 points) and Peyton Damasiewicz (4 points) also scored for the Bulldogs.
Monte returns to league play against Hoquiam at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoquiam Square Garden.

WF West 54, Montesano 51
In a battle of two of the top teams in their respective classes, a Montesano comeback fell just short in a 54-51 loss to WF West on Friday in Chehalis.
Monte (11-3) trailed 30-18 as Jordan Karr hit a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half.
After a slow start on the defensive end for a Monte team that has held its last three 1A Evergreen League opponents to less than 30 points, the Bulldogs ramped up the defensive intensity in the second half.
The Bulldogs — the 1A class No. 3 team in the latest AP rankings — outscored the Bearcats (13-2) — the 2A No. 3 team — 15-10 in the third quarter to trail 40-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Monte got as close as three points in the final period, but were forced to foul down the stretch. WF West’s Morgan Rogerson hit five free throws late in the game to secure the win for the Bearcats.
“Our defensive intensity wasn’t what it has been to start the game, which didn’t help,” Montesano head coach Mark Mansfield said. “It’s a disappointing loss, but the way we battled back, this will help us in the long run.”
McKynnlie Dalan led all scorers with 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds while younger sister Evanjillie “Jillie” Dalan (10 points, 5 rebounds) and Jaiden King (10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) also scored in double figures for Monte.
WF West was led by Julia Dalan — cousin to McKynnlie and Jillie — with 21 points and nine rebounds.
Lena Fragner and Rogerson added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bearcats.
Monte shot 19 of 54 as a team (35%) and 8 of 12 from the free-throw line (67%).
The Bulldogs also outrebounded WF West 27-24.
Monte hosts Hoquiam in a key 1A Evergreen League matchup at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
