The Grays Harbor Bearcats showed little rust from a year off as they demolished the Washington Raptors 67-2 in an exhibition contest at Stewart Field on Saturday.
The Bearcats racked up 203 yards on the ground with Skyler Wells scoring four touchdowns and Vincent McCrory adding another two touchdowns.
Defensively, Dan Brown bookended the game with great plays. Brown forced a fumble on the first Raptors’ possession and returned a fumble recovery 15 yards to score the final touchdown for the Bearcats.
After Brown forced the first fumble, it didn’t take the Bearcats long to break the game open. McCrory rumbled in from three yards out for the first rushing touchdown of the game in the first quarter. Grays Harbor took to the air later in the quarter as Eric Dixon connected with Pedro Gonzales on a 6-yard pass. While the Raptors’ lone score of the game would come on a fumbled snap on the point after try that was returned for two points, Grays Harbor led 20-2 at the end of the quarter.
Dixon connected on a 6-yard pass to Justin Spencer early in the second quarter, before McCrory broke an 8-yard touchdown run to make the score 33-2 at halftime.
Wells added touchdowns on runs of 25 and 3 yards in the third quarter and added scores on runs of 16 and 4 yards in the fourth quarter to keep the Bearcats rolling.
Grays Harbor limited the Raptors to -16 total yards of offense and only four first downs, while forcing five turnovers.
The Bearcats will take on the South Sound Nighthawks at 6 p.m. at Stewart Field on Saturday in their final preseason game before beginning the season at home against the Kitsap Storm on May 13.
