Raymond-South Bend 58, Toledo 34

Raymond-South Bend exacted a little revenge with a 58-34 win over Toledo on Monday at Raymond High School.

The Ravens (2-1) hit 10 threes and had just eight turnovers en route to the victory over the Riverhawks (1-1), which ended the Raven’s season in the district tournament a season ago.

“Just a very physical competitive game versus an opponent we know well,” RSB head coach Jason Koski said.

RSB had four players with three fouls or more in the game, but senior guard Berklee Morley (6 points, 3 rebounds) and freshman guard Elizabeth Lewis (2 rebounds) stepped up to give the Ravens valuable minutes.

“We got into early foul trouble and it continued all game long,” Koski said. “Thank goodness for Berklee and Liz who played bigger minutes than they have been and gave us good contributions both on off and defense.”

The Ravens were led by junior Kassi Koski, who had a game-high 17 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Junior point guard Megan Kongbouakhay (11 points, 6 assists, 5 steals) and sophomore guard Avalyn Stigall (11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) also scored in double digits for the Ravens.

“Making 10 threes as a team was a welcome sight, but more importantly winning the rebound battle and limiting our turnovers to eight was huge. The latter was mainly due to the ball handling of Megan, who just continues to control our offense, which lets our post kids and shooters do their thing.”

RSB faces Naselle at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Naselle High School.

Toledo 5 7 12 10 – 34

RSB 14 20 12 12 – 58

Scoring: Toledo – Gould 9, Stanley 7, Lairson Young 6, Tallon 5, Holter 2, Cooper 2, Miller 2, Z. Norberg 1. RSB – Koski 17, Kongbouakhay 11, Stigall 11, Baugher 7, Morley 6, Pine 6.

Onalaska 44, Hoquiam 38

Hoquiam couldn’t slow down Onalaska’s budding superstar in a 44-38 loss on Monday at Onalaska High School.

The Grizzlies (1-1) played close with the Loggers (2-0) but struggled to stop Onalaska sophomore guard Emalie Jacoby, who led all scorers with 28 points.

Hoquiam had 38 turnovers in the game to 20 for Onalaska, leading to 19 more shots for the Loggers.

The Grizzlies were led by Sydney Gordon with nine points and 13 rebounds.

Lexi Labounty had eight points while Austyn Capoeman added six points and seven rebounds for Hoquiam.

Hoquiam outrebounded Onalaska 36-27 and shot 13 for 40 (32.5%) from the field.

“So proud of the effort we came with today and never stopped working,” Hoquiam head coach Chad Allan said. “So many things we can take away from this game to improve to our potential. Exactly what a (non-league) game should provide.”

Hoquiam hosts Taholah at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hoquiam 8 11 6 13 – 38

Onalaska 11 10 10 13 – 44

Scoring: Hoquiam – Gordon 9, LaBounty 8, Kennedy 6, Capoeman 5, Brodhead 5, Standstipher 3, Stewart 2. Onalaska – Jacoby 28, Haight 6, R. Marshall 5, D. Marshall 4, Sandridge 1.
