Montesano got off to a poor start and never caught up in a 65-44 loss to Adna on Monday at Montesano High School.

The Bulldogs (2-3 overall) fell behind early after managing just six points in the first quarter and trailed 35-19 at halftime.

The Bulldogs cleaned things up a bit in the second half and chipped the Pirates lead down to 13 points late in the fourth quarter, but behind a 33-point performance from Adna senior Karsyn Freeman, the lead ballooned back up over 20 points by game’s end.

“We tried some new things and kept fighting and battling,” Mansfield said. “I really thought we played to the very end. … I was proud of our effort.”

Bulldogs junior forward Jillie Dalan had 15 points and eight rebounds while senior forward Ava Schrader added 11 points and a team-best nine rebounds for Monte.
