Tumwater 7, Aberdeen 1

Aberdeen lost to league-leading Tumwater for the second time this season 7-1 on Tuesday at Stewart Field in Aberdeen.

The Bobcats (5-6-2 overall, 2-4 2A Evergreen) were bit with some back luck as some costly calls and non-calls went against them, leading to Tumwater goals in the first half.

Playing with a five defender, one forward set, the Bobcats were able to keep the potent T-Birds attack off the scoreboard until a non-call impacted the game.

In the 15th minute, a ball bounced off the arm of a Tumwater forward and directly to a teammate, who scored for a 1-0 lead as a hand ball wasn’t called by the referee.

Ten minutes later, an Aberdeen player standing outside the penalty area was called for a hand ball, but Tumwater was erroneously awarded a penalty kick, which was converted for a 2-0 lead at the half.

Aberdeen made the switch to a 4-4-2 in the second half and created multiple offensive scoring opportunities but was unable to cut into the deficit.

Tumwater (9-2-2, 6-0 2A Evergreen) tacked on three more goals until Aberdeen’s Sawyer Shoemaker chipped a ball toward Arani Torres, who beat a T-Birds defender and was fouled in the penalty area, earning the Bobcats a penalty kick.

Senior midfielder and First Team all-conference candidate Scotlyn Lecomte knocked the PK into the low corner to make it a 5-1 game.

Tumwater added two late goals to close out the scoring.

“The girls really fought hard and played a much improved match this time around,” said Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming, who cited the hustle of Lecomte, Abby Mainio and Delaney Shoemaker. “It was essentially 4-1 and we had multiple good looks at the Tumwater net in this rematch. So proud of our effort tonight.”

Aberdeen sits two games behind Centralia for third place in the conference and will face the Tigers at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Tiger Stadium in Centralia.

Montesano 4, Tenino 1

Montesano remained alone in the top spot of the 1A Evergreen League with a 4-1 victory over Tenino on Tuesday in Montesano.

The Bulldogs (8-4, 5-0 1A Evergreen) got on the board with two first-half goals by senior forward Adda Potts and took a 3-0 halftime lead thanks to a goal by sophomore striker Jaelyn Butterfield in the 35th minute.

Monte was able to add goal by Hazel Jones in the 69th minute after controlling possession throughout the game against the defensive-minded Beavers (6-6-1, 2-3).

Tenino would score a goal late in the game when a ball bounced off a Montesano player and into the net for an own goal.

“Most of the night, we were on their side of the field, it was one of those dominating nights where it could’ve been worse for (Tenino), but they kind of got lucky it was only 4-1. … I was hoping we’d start off faster in the first 10 minutes of the game, especially against Tenino since they like to defend heavy. … But the thing I liked was that we passed the ball really well and were finding good combinations.”

Montesano sits a game up on Elma for the top spot in the league and will face Hoquiam at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Olympic Stadium.

Elma 2, Rochester 0

Playing without their leading goal scorer, Elma scored a goal in each half to beat Rochester 2-0 on Tuesday in Rochester.

The Eagles (5-5-2, 4-1 1A Evergreen League) got on the scoreboard when senior forward Valerie Echeverria centered a pass to senior midfielder Miley Seaberg, who scored on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box for a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.

In the second half, a Seaberg shot was blocked by the Warriors keeper, but senior midfielder Mia Monroe got to the rebound and scored for a 2-0 advantage in the 54th minute.

“It was just a really hard game,” Elma head coach Evan Valentine said, noting the difficult field conditions at Rochester High School. “It was wet, it was muddy, it was slippery. … I could tell going in it was going to be one of those days. Sometimes in soccer, the match itself is the toughest competition for everyone, and this was one of those days. It was just a hard match to play because of the elements and all the factors that play into it.”

Elma was without leading scorer Beta Valentine as she is day-to-day after suffering a head injury against Montesano on Thursday.

The Eagles play at Tenino at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Rochester 0 0 – 0
