W.F. West 3, Aberdeen 1

Aberdeen dropped its third-straight league game with a 3-1 loss to W.F. West on Tuesday in Chehalis.

The Bobcats (5-8-2, 2-6 2A Evergreen) held the second-place Bearcats (10-3, 6-2) off the scoreboard through the first two-thirds of the match, but a Rylee Beebe goal in the 61st minute broke the scoreless tie.

Ten minutes later, W.F. West doubled its lead on a Jaelynn Fuentes goal followed a few minutes later by an Aberdeen own goal to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead.

Aberdeen broke the shutout bid when senior midfielder Delaney Shoemaker chipped a ball over the Bearcats defense to standout senior Scotlyn Lecomte, whose 1-on-1 attempt was blocked by the W.F. West keeper.

Aberdeen freshman midfielder Shay Dunlap took a shot off the rebound that was also stopped, but the ball bounced toward junior midfielder Miley Anderson, who knocked in a shot from 16-yards out in stoppage time.

Cats keeper Anni Devine “had her best game of the season,” according to head coach Larry Fleming, making three 1-on-1 saves in the game.

“Our effort was outstanding and we made some strides this match toward being aggressive and winning the 50/50 balls against a very good team,” said Fleming, who commended the play of Bobcats Hana Lessard and Arani Garcia. “We also were able to penetrate deep into the attacking third multiple times to put some real pressure on the opponent.”

Aberdeen sits in fifth place in the 2A Evergreen Conference and will earn a spot in next week’s district play-in game with wins in its final two league games and a Black Hills loss to Tumwater.

The Bobcats host last-place Shelton for Senior Night and Youth Soccer Night at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
