Montesano 4, Tenino 0
Montesano solved Tenino’s defensive shell to earn a 4-0 victory in a 1A Evergreen League matchup on Tuesday at Montesano High School.
After managing one goal in the first half despite holding the majority of possession, the Bulldogs (5-1-1 overall, 1-0 1A Evergreen) broke through for three goals in the second half to put the game away against Tenino (5-3-1, 0-1).
First Team all-state forward Mikayla Stanfield led the Bulldogs with a hat trick with junior midfielder Hazel Jones also scoring a goal.
According to Monte head coach Fidel Sanchez, the difference for the Bulldogs in the second half came down to solving Tenino’s defensive game plan, which had nine to 10 Beavers playing back for most of the game.
“I think (Tenino’s) goal was to organize defensively then counter with their speed on the wing,” Sanchez said. “I told the girls (at halftime), ‘We have so much possession, we’ve got to show something for it.’ Finally, we broke through with Mick getting two more goals in the second half to complete the hat trick. … Much better attack in the second half. We finally broke them down.”
Montesano had 21 shots – nine on-target – and three corner kicks in the game.
The Bulldogs host Eatonville at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Tumwater 5, Aberdeen 0
Aberdeen was shut out against an unbeaten Tumwater team 5-0 in a 2A Evergreen Conference game on Tuesday in Aberdeen.
The Bobcats (2-4, 2-2 2A Evergreen) created a few shots in the game from a distance but spent most of the time looking to clear the ball out of their own defensive third.
Tumwater (8-0, 5-0) scored twice in the first 12 minutes and took a 3-0 lead by halftime.
The Thunderbirds added two more in the second half against a more physical Bobcats defense.
Cats goal keeper Jaylynn Phimmasone stopped several dangerous Tumwater scoring chances and runs into the box while Scotlyn Lecomte “was excellent on the defensive end,” according to Bobcats head coach Larry Fleming.
Aberdeen faces Shelton in a league game scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday in Shelton.
Tumwater 3 2 – 5
Aberdeen 0 0 – 0
Elma 13, Hoquiam 0
Elma scored throughout the game en route to a 13-0 win over Hoquiam on Tuesday in Elma.
The Eagles (7-1, 1-0 1A Evergreen) netted three goals in the first three minutes of the game and scored eight goals in the second half, including four in a five-minute span to win its league opener.
“I thought we moved the ball well and that was our game plan,” Elma head coach Evan Valentine said. “I wanted the team to play with cohesiveness and good, quick ball movement and I thought we did that.”
Elma was led by junior midfielder Valerie Echeverria, who scored five goals and recorded three assists in the game.
Junior standouts Beta Valentine (3 goals, 2 assists) and Miley Seaberg (2 G, 4 A) also had big games as did senior Aaleigha Weld (2 G, 3 A).
Elma senior Macy Adams had an assist with Chloe Donais also scoring a goal for the Eagles.
Hoquiam (1-4, 0-1) struggled to find much success against the defending district champions as Grizzlies head coach Corri Schmid shuffled players around to different positions in an attempt to gain some possession.
Hoquiam standout Jemima Perez played goal keeper in the first half, but sat out the second half due to a nagging injury.
