GIRLS PREP SOCCER

Ocosta 4, Forks 0

A goal-scoring flurry late in the first half propelled Ocosta to a 4-0 win over Forks on Monday at Ocosta High School.

The Wildcats (8-4-1, 3-4 2B Central) scored three goals in a four-minute span late in the first half to take a 3-0 lead over the Spartans (1-9-1, 1-5) at the half.

Ocosta sophomore midfielder Scarlett Nelson got things going with a goal off a Kat Nersten assist in the 34th minute.

Three minutes later Nersten took a shot off a deflection and scored to put Ocosta up 2-0.

One minute later, Wildcats senior defender Joanah Rosander perfectly placed a 40-plus yard shot over the Forks goal keeper’s head for a three-goal lead.

Standout senior midfielder Kylee Denny did the rest, dribbling around the Forks defense and ripping an angled shot to the far post for the game’s final goal three minutes into the second half.

“I was so impressed with our passing game tonight and our girls all working together as a unit,” said Ocosta head coach Rissy Ness, whose team collected its fifth straight home game with the victory. “Our defense of Gabby Ness, Kennedy Reynolds, Joanah Rosander and Marlee Cobain did a great job of protecting our goal, only causing our freshman goalie Hollys Baldwin to need two saves for the night. The defense held their line, not allowing many through balls for Forks.”

Ocosta sits in fifth place in the 2B Central League and will host Raymond-South Bend at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
