Wildcats 7, Eagles 1
PUYALLUP — Ocosta got its first road match of the season going by scoring three goals in the first 11 minutes en route to a non-league win over Evergreen Lutheran on Thursday.
Eighth-grade forward Kjirstin Hopfer scored a hat trick for the Wildcats and assisted on two of the three first-half goals. Hopfer started the scoring, helped on Ryann Raffelson and Kendal Wilson’s markers for a 3-0 lead and scored the team’s first two goals of the second half.
Katelynn Denny and Anna Samuelson added goals later in the contest, while Evergreen Lutheran scored on a penalty kick in the second half.
Ocosta goalkeeper Kristi Raffelson had just one save in the contest.
“We improved our passing and communication,” Ocosta head coach Mike King said. “We just have a difficult time playing in the heat. With only two subs, we wore out.”
On Tuesday, Ocosta (2-0) starts Central 2B League play at Toledo.
Eagles 5, Cougars 1
ELMA — At Davis Field, visiting Seton Catholic scored the first goal, but host Elma notched five unanswered goals — four in the second half — to win this non-league match on Thursday.
Individual goal scorers were unavailable.
The Cougars converted early in the first half, with the Eagles tying the game quickly thereafter. After a 1-1 halftime, Elma took over for the win.
Alicia Hook and Peyton Elliott were cited by head coach Scott Rockey for their all-around play, while Destry Dineen was cited for her work in the midfield.
On Tuesday, Elma visits Aberdeen on Saturday.
Pirates 6, Grizzlies 2
Adna’s Pirates scored six unanswered goals in the final 53 minutes to erase an early Hoquiam lead in a non-league contest Thursday at Olympic Stadium.
Hoquiam (1-1) grabbed a 2-0 lead when Maya Jump converted a 20-yard attempt in the fifth minute and Alexis Wonderly redirected a Jump free kick into the net in the 24th minute.
Adna, however, responded with goals in the 27th, 35th and 38th minutes. Capitalizing on breakaways, they scored three more times in the second half.
Fine goalkeeping by Hoquiam sophomore Jade Cox, who made 14 saves, prevented matters from being even more lopsided.
“They stepped up big-time,” Grizzly coach Drew Grannemann said of the Pirates. “We started really hot, but the momentum really switched after that first goal by Adna.”
Grizzly defender Jenna Doll was cited for fine play.
Hoquiam travels to Centralia on Tuesday.
