Grays Harbor College finishes weekend dual meet in ninth place

Chokers led by Clark, Luna and Salazar in consolation round; Menlo College wins team title

The Grays Harbor College men’s wrestling team completed its two-day competition at the 2024 National Collegiate Wrestling Association Men’s Western Duals on Sunday at Hoquiam High School.

The Chokers went 1-2 on Sunday in the tournament’s consolation round to place ninth overall.

GHC lost to Utah Tech 30-27 and Western Washington 30-21 to open Sunday’s competition.

The Chokers picked up a forfeit victory over University of British Columbia followed by a 30-21 loss to the University of Washington to close out the meet.

GHC was led by Rocco Clark, Austin Salazar and Joshua Luna over the weekend.

Clark won four of his five head-to-head matches over the weekend in the 285-pound class.

Salazar went 5-2 in head-to-head competition at 235 pounds while Luna, who wrestles at 197 pounds, went a perfect 4-0 in his matches, not counting forfeitures.

Menlo College placed first with Colorado State University and Washington State in second and third, respectively.
