Hoquiam’s Payton Quintanilla and Matt Brown, and Elma’s Taitum Brumfield earned the top awards as the 1A Evergreen league released its all-league honors for the 2018 season.
After having a stellar regular season, Hoquiam took home three of the league’s top four honors.
Quarterback Payton Quintanilla was name the league’s Most Valuable Player after throwing for 1,959 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. Quintanilla completed 63 percent of his passes, has thrown just five interceptions and holds a quarterback rating of 115.2 for the undefeated Grizzlies (9-0).
Brown has been a stalwart in leading Hoquiam’s defense this season and was named the league’s Defensive MVP on Monday. The junior linebacker has 54 solo tackles on the season and averages 9.4 tackles-per-game for a Hoquiam defense that has allowed more than 20 points in a game just twice this season. He also recorded 2.5 sacks and caused one fumble in leading the Grizzlies defense.
Hoquiam’s coaching staff, helmed by head coach Jeremy McMillan, was named the league’s coaching staff of the year after claiming a league title.
Elma’s Taitum Brumfield was named the league’s Offensive MVP after rushing for a league-leading 1,289 yards and 22 touchdowns to lead the Eagles to their best season since 2001. Brumfield is currently averaging 6.3 yards-per-carry and 128.9 yards-per-game.
