Hoquiam’s Kennedy named league MVP for second-straight season

Three Grizzlies, two Montesano Bulldogs named to First Team

Hoquiam senior middle blocker Chloe Kennedy earned her second-consecutive MVP award as the 1A Evergreen League announced its all-league team.

Kennedy, who was named co-MVP last season with Montesano’s McKynnlie Dalan, was named MVP after leading the Grizzlies to a perfect 15-0 record in the regular season and the league title.

Kennedy’s league state are impressive, dominating opponents at the net with 97 kills out of 180 attempts (.450) to go along with 24 solo blocks.

Kennedy also went 93% from the service line in league this season with 31 aces.

“She earned MVP again by being an impact player,” Hoquiam head coach Heather Bozich said of her standout senior. “What has been fun about this season was putting in a quicker offense and being able to run new things and she was a big reason we could do that thanks to her athleticism. She’s a special player and I’ve been lucky to have coached her the majority of her volleyball career.”

Three additional Grizzlies were named to the league’s First Team, with senior setter Ella Folkers, senior libero Graci Bonney-Spradlin and junior middle blocker Kristina Goulet earning top-team nods.

The league’s first team was rounded out by a trio of Harbor athletes, with Montesano seniors Addie Winter (middle blocker) and Ashlynn Devereaux (outside hitter) and Elma senior Brooklynne Swarts (setter) earning First Team honors.

Bozich and her staff were honored with Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

“All I can say is this team made it easy for us to earn that,” Bozich said. “They are the ones out on the court putting in the work. We were there to guide them and make adjustments along the way. There may have been some strongly-worded rants throughout the season, but all-in-all it’s been an honor to coach this team.”
