One big inning proved to be the difference in Elma’s 8-1 loss to Tenino in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday in Tenino.

The Eagles (5-9-1 overall, 3-7 1A Evergreen) and Beavers (12-4, 5-4) were tied through three scoreless innings until Tenino scored eight errors in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a three-run triple by Austin Gonia.

Elma broke the shutout bid when shortstop Jack Alexander singled to drive in right fielder Bo Muller with two outs in the seventh.

T.J. Dunlap took the loss for the Eagles, allowing seven runs – two earned – on six hits with two strikeouts in 3 1-3 innings of relief.

Troy Rupe started for Elma, allowing one earned run son three hits with three strikeouts in 2 2-3 innings pitched.

Brody Palmer and second baseman Cole Gustafson had two hits apiece to lead Elma.

Elma 7, Tenino 2

The Elma pitching staff made an early lead stick in a 7-2 win over Tenino in the nightcap on Friday in Tenino.

The Eagles scored three runs over the first two innings on a two-run double by outfielder Isaac McGaffey in the first and a sacrifice fly by Jack Alexander to score Bo Muller in the second.

McGaffey singled in Troy Rupe to stake Elma to a 4-1 lead in the fourth and the Eagles put the game away on an RBI single by Dunlap and a two-run single by third baseman Bryston Crawford for a 7-2 lead in the sixth.

The Eagles’ run production provided Elma starter Brody Palmer and reliever Cole Gustafson with plenty of cushion.

Palmer, an ace left-hander, scattered four hits and a walk while striking out six and allowing two earned runs over six innings.

Gustafson entered in the seventh and quickly got two outs before hitting a batter and allowing a walk, but eventually got Will Feltus to pop out to Alexander at the plate to seal the win.

Palmer went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Eagles offense, which had 11 hits and drew five walks in the game.

McGaffey and Dunlap had two hits apiece for Elma.

The Eagles host Hoquiam in a doubleheader set for 3 p.m. on Friday.

Shelton 2, Aberdeen 0

Aberdeen struggled to score in a 2-0 loss to Shelton on Friday in Aberdeen.

Despite outhitting the Hiclimbers 8-6, the Bobcats (5-7, 2-6 2A Evergreen) failed to score any runs as key hits with runners in scoring position eluded the Aberdeen offense.

Aberdeen fell behind in the top of the second when Zane Scott single to drive in two runs, which turned out to be the only runs of the game.

The Bobcats’ best chance to score came in the bottom of the fourth when Aidan Baker and center fielder Donovaan Hedgpeth reached base with singles.

With one out in the inning, Shelton pitcher Daniel Crossan got third baseman Chad Fretts and first baseman Mylan Bruner to fly out to end the Bobcats threat.

Aberdeen starting pitcher Mason Hill took the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Baker gave up three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in four scoreless innings of relief.

All eight of Aberdeen’s eight hits came from three players. Baker and Hedgpeth had three hits apiece while catcher Sam Schreiber went 2 for 3 at the plate.

With the loss, the Bobcats sit in fourth place in the 2A Evergreen Conference, one game ahead of Centralia in the loss column.

Aberdeen plays at Black Hills at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Naselle 11, Ocosta 1

A close game early turned into a 11-1 mercy-rule loss for Ocosta in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday in Naselle.

The Wildcats (5-9) took a 1-0 lead when Torence Bonina – on board with a leadoff single – came in to score on a steal of home with one out.

But Naselle scored three in the bottom half of the inning and completed the 10-run rule win with seven runs in the sixth, including five runs on bases-loaded walks by the Ocosta pitching staff.

Bonina led the Wildcats with three hits as six different Ocosta players recorded a hit in the game.

Dominick Hanson-Miranda took the loss for Ocosta, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 4 2-3 innings pitched.

Caden Arbona (0.1 IP, 2R, 2ER, 0H, 2BB) and Mark Sevilla (0 IP, 5R, 5ER, H, 5BB) pitched in relief for the Wildcats, whose pitching staff gave up just five hits but allowed a total of 11 walks in the game.

Naselle 14, Ocosta 1

Ocosta lost the second game of the twin bill 14-1 to Nasele on Friday in Naselle.

The Wildcats fell behind 10-0 after three innings as walks, errors and hit batters were prominent in the loss.

Ocosta starting pitcher Bryce Bottelson (2 IP, 8R, 5ER, 7H, BB, K) and reliever Logan White (1.2 IP, 6R, 6ER, 3H, 4BB, 4K) combined to allow 10 hits, five walks and hit five Comets batters in the game.

The two teams combined to plunk 10 batters total in the game.

Ocosta scored its lone run of the game when catcher Mark Sevilla singled to drive in Torence Bonina in the top of the fifth inning.

Sevilla went 2 for 3 with center fielder David Gonzales adding a base hit for Ocosta, which totaled three hits in the game.

The Wildcats host Wahkiakum at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 26, Onalaska 3

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s baseball team put up a football score in a 26-3 thrashing of Onalaska on Saturday in Pe Ell.

The Titans scored its 26 runs on 18 hits and benefited from five Loggers errors, leading to a whopping 16 unearned runs for PWV.

Second baseman Lucas Lusk went 4 for 4 with four runs and three RBI while pitcher Liam Smaciarz had three hits – including a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning – and drove in a game-high six runs for the Titans.

Left fielder Kannyon Clements and right fielder Liam Lennox also had multi-hit games for the Titans, which had 10 players collect a base hit in the game.

PWV hosts North Beach for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
