Aberdeen places second at district championships
The Aberdeen Bobcats placed second overall at the 2A District 4 Championships on Saturday at Mark Morris High School in Longview.
Aberdeen took second overall in the team standings, 6.5 points behind Hockinson, and will compete in eight events in next weekend’s state 2A boys swimming and diving championship meet.
Senior Jacob Hallak won the district title in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.07) and will compete in four events, including the 200 individual medley and two relays.
Junior Cole Nylander shared the district title with Mark Morris’ Anakin Isenhart in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.50) and will compete in three events, including two relays, at state.
Senior Denny Linker backstopped all three relays, plus qualified in the 200 IM, to compete in four events at state.
Junior Zeke Olson will also compete in four events at state — diving, 100 butterfly and two relays — for the Bobcats.
Junior Micah Schroeder, who has already qualified for state in diving last week as the District IV 2A champion, was a member of the state-qualifying 200 freestyle relay. Sophomore Cooper Gill was a member of both state-qualifying freestyle relays (4×50 and 4×100).
“The message of the day was ‘No Bad Days,’” Aberdeen head coach Rob Burns said. “No one had one. We were a bit disappointed in falling so short for the district team title, but everyone was excited for the efforts and results of their state-qualifying teammates. No one had a bad day and that made it a great day to be a Bobcat.”
The WIAA 2A Boys Swimming & Diving State Championships are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
