BOYS PREP BASKETBALL
Ocosta 50, Raymond-South Bend 39
Ocosta spoiled Raymond-South Bend’s combo boys basketball debut with a 50-39 win on Tuesday at Ocosta High School.
The Wildcats (1-0 overall) trailed 23-22 at halftime as Raymond-South Bend (0-1) – playing as a combo team for the first time in boys basketball – led at the half thanks in large part to senior guard Chris Quintana’s 13 points and 11 Ocosta turnovers.
But the Wildcats cleaned things up in the second half, committing just five turnovers despite playing with an increased sense of urgency.
“Tonight was a typical first game for both teams. Little bit sloppy at times and there were times in the game where both teams showed a little fatigue,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “In the second half, we were able to push tempo a little bit which I think wore them down a little and caused some turnovers on their part, which helped us get some easier looks in transition.”
Ocosta’s Sonny Beard had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds while teammate Kayden Turner led the Wildcats with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting (46.7%), including four 3-pointers.
Noah Prigmore also scored in double digits for Ocosta with 10 points to go along with four assists and three steals.
The Wildcats hit 22 of 56 shots (31.6%), including 6 of 19 (31.3%) from 3-point range and grabbed 41 rebounds as a team.
Quintana led RSB with 19 points while Tanner Morris had eight for the Ravens.
RSB went 31% from the field on 14-of-45 shooting.
“I was pleased with how well we are already coming together as a team,” RSB head coach Jon Schray said. “There are still some things we need to put in place system-wise, but starting out against a good opponent was a great start to the season even if we did come up short of the win.”
Ocosta plays at Pe Ell at 7 p.m. on Friday.
RSB is scheduled to play at King’s Way Christian at 7 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 11.
RSB 9 14 9 7 – 50

Scoring: RSB – Quintana 19, Morris 8, Schlueter 5, Ridderbush 5, Banker 2. Ocosta – Turner 19, Beard 12, Prigmore 10, Welch 6, Solis 3.
