Several Twin Harbors prep powerlifters placed on the podium at the Washington State High School Powerlifting Championships on Saturday, May 6 at Shelton High School.
Three local prep lifters won state weight-class titles at the meet.
In the boys competition, Elma’s Colton Moran lifted a total of 1,330 pounds to win the state championship in the 198-pound weight class.
In the girls competition, Aberdeen’s Iris Singleton stole the show with a record-setting performance. Singleton broke about every record imaginable to win the 148-pound weight class.
The Bobcats standout broke the state bench-press record (155 pounds), the state squat record (285) the state deadlift record (330) and the total lifted state record of 770 pounds.
Montesano’s Hannah Bruland won the 165-pound weight class with 710 total pounds lifted with teammate Hailey McElroy breaking the state deadlift record (275) to place second at 105 pounds.
Montesano’s girls team placed third in the state with 34 points while the Bulldogs boys team placed fourth with 28 points in the meet, which featured over 180 lifters representing 20 schools.

Former Grizzly German named NWAC region MVP
Former Hoquiam Grizzly and current Everett College softball player Maddie German was named the Northwest Athletic Conference North Regional MVP for the 2023 season.
The sophomore catcher hit .439 with 14 home runs, 63 RBI, a .504 on-base percentage and a .911 slugging percentage in 39 games for the Trojans.
