Hoquiam girls take first in Adna
The Hoquiam girls track and field team dominated in Adna on Tuesday, scoring 144 points to win the overall team title at Adna High School.
Hoquiam scored 144 points to nearly double second-place Willapa Valley (78 points) with host Adna (75) placing third.
The Grizzlies were led by Tyara Straka, who won both the shot put (43-03) and discus (104-09) events and also got individual event wins from Jennifer Cole (400, 1:09.25), Valerie Roloff (1600, 6:22.01), Jane Roloff (14:31.98, personal record), Sharaya Brydon (high jump, 5-00) and swept the 4×100, 4×200 and 4-400 meter relay races.
Emily Wilson (800, 2:44.15 PR) and Brooklyn Patrick (long jump, 14-03 PR) picked up victories for Willapa Valley.
Adna won the boys team event with 112 points. Pe Ell (100) places second with Hoquiam (82) coming in third.
Hoquiam’s Timmy Higgins won two events to lead the Grizzlies, winning the 800 meter race (2:15.35) and the 1,600 (5:02.34), both personal-best times.
Hoquiam’s Konlan Higgins (3200, 12:38.81) and Willapa Valley’s Joseph Ashlock (javelin, 131-07 PR) also won events on Tuesday.

Ocosta successful at home event
The Ocosta Wildcats won both the boys and girls team events at a league meet at Ocosta High School on Tuesday.
Ocosta’s boys team tallied 114 points to win the event, with Elma (106), Forks (98), Raymond (44) and Wishkah Valley (37) rounding out the top five.
Ocosta was led by William Idso, who won both the 200 (23.68 PR) and high jump (5-10) and anchored the Wildcats’ victorious 4×400 meter relay team.
Matthew Idso (400, 53.83 PR), Dylan Todd (3200, 10:52.80) and Billy Jones (pole vault, 10-03 PR) also won events for Ocosta.
Raymond’s Morgan Anderson (110 hurdles, triple jump) also won multiple events on Tuesday.
The Wildcats girls team also won the team competition, scoring 121 points. Forks (100), Elma (85), Raymond (82) and Wishkah (35) placing second through fifth, respectively.
Natalie Cain led the way for the Wildcats, winning the 800 (2:56.02), the 3,200 (14:14.60) and the triple jump (26-09.25).
Devyn Martin won the girls 200 meter race with a time of 29.13 and Martin and Cain ran the third and fourth legs, respectively, of the Wildcats’ winning 4×100 relay team.
Raymond’s Kyra Gardner joined Cain as the only other three-event winner in the girls competition on Tuesday, claiming victories in the 100 meter hurdles (16.74 PR), the high jump (5-06) and long jump (16-05).

GIRLS GOLF
Tumwater 85, Aberdeen 51
The Aberdeen girls golf team lost to Tumwater 85-51 on Wednesday at Grays Harbor Country Club.
Aberdeen was led by Britt Rajcich, who scored 24 points for the Bobcats (Stableford scoring system).
Kaitlyn McCracken totalled nine points and Saylor Heikkila scored eight points for Aberdeen.
Despite the loss, Aberdeen head coach Dan Sundstrom saw some positives from Wednesday’s results.
“Even though we lost, our team score improved by 11 points,” he said. “We are so proud of Brit and Saylor for staying focused and playing their own games. … Kaitlyn McCracken played her best round of the season.”
BASEBALL
Tumwater 13, Aberdeen 5
Aberdeen dropped its third-straight league game with a 13-5 loss to Tumwater on Wednesday in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen faced deficits in each of the first two innings, but responded in both frames.
The Bobcats (3-4 overall, 2-4 2A Evergreen) rallied from down 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning on a run-scoring double from Eli Brown and an RBI single from Kenny Dawson.
Aberdeen trailed 3-2 in the second but tied the game on on Brown’s second RBI double of the game and took a 4-3 lead when Kaiden Schubert scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
But Tumwater regained the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning and never let up, scoring a pair of runs in the fourth and sixth innings sandwiched around a four-run fifth inning.
Brown (2-4, 2 2B, 2RBI), Tobie Heggie (2-3, R), Hunter Eisele (2-4, 3B) and Luca Pisani (2-4, RBI) had two hits apiece for Aberdeen.
Eisele took the loss for Aberdeen, giving up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks in three innings pitched.
Of Tumwater’s 13 runs, six were unearned as the Bobcats defense committed four errors in the game.

GIRLS TENNIS
Aberdeen 4, Shelton 2
The Aberdeen girls tennis team got its first win of the season with a 4-2 victory Shelton on Wednesday in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen got wins from singles players Lizbeth Cisneros and Savannah Strickland and doubles victories from the duos of Kallie Knutson/Annie Troeh and Lillian Allen/Zoe Troeh.
“It was great to get our first team win of the season,” Aberdeen head coach Ashley Kohlmeier said. “As our lineup continues to evolve, it’s been fun to see the girls starting to find some rhythm on the court. We still have a lot of work to do, but it was definitely good for us to get matched up against a team with similar experience and skill level.”
