Local youth athletes qualify for Junior Olympic National Championships

Jared, Brayden Fry find success at Tacoma regional meet

Ocean Shores youth athletes Brayden and Jared Fry qualified to compete at the upcoming Junior Olympic national championships after success at a recent regional meet.

Competing at the United States Track & Field Region 13 Championships at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma July 6-9, the sons of North Beach High School head coach Peter Fry qualified for the national championships in multiple events.

Jared, 10, qualified in the turbo javelin (21.53 meters, 2nd), the triathlon (shot put, high jump, 400m; 608 points, 2nd) and was crowned the regional champion in the high jump with a mark of 1.31 meters.

Brayden, 11, qualified in three events, placing eighth in the 80-meter hurdles (17.03), fifth in the high jump (1.20m), and earned a fourth-place finish in the pentathlon (80m hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump, 1500m) with 1,137 points.

The pair will compete at the USATF National Junior Track & Field Championships July 24-30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
