SHELTON — Taking the boards for its debut, Aberdeen improved personal bests and learned what high school competition bowling was like in a non-league match with Shelton at Westside Lanes on Monday afternoon.
Bryerlee Perry bowled the highest score of the day for the Bobcats, finishing with a 158 in the second game against the Highclimbers. The two teams played two games against each other, plus two Baker-style scoring games — which features five bowlers rolling two frames each — in the match.
“I’m pleased with the second game,” AHS head coach David Brunche said. “We had six girls with new personal bests today. We have 18 bowlers, 17 of them traveled, and we’re improving constantly. They’re really new to bowling and they’re getting into it.”
On Thursday, Aberdeen added a home match for its debut at Rainier Lanes against Olympia.

OYEHUT — Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby bemoaned the missed chances in this Pacific 2B League contest with North Beach, but his team nearly drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to tie the game on Monday night.
After North Beach missed two free throws with 4.8 seconds left, Ocosta got off a tying shot at the buzzer just outside the 3-point line. However, it didn’t fall.
“You aren’t going to beat too many teams giving up 73 points,” Quinby said. “We had a lot of missed opportunities. Over the last nine seconds, we played it perfect. We just came up one shot short.”
“Man, they had a decent look at that last shot,” North Beach head coach Larry Moore added. “It was a good game up to the end.”
Steven Sotomish led the Hyaks (1-1, 1-2) with a triple-double — 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists — and Tim Johnson led all scorers with 29 points. Rodney Washington scored 15 points and was cited by Moore for his aggressiveness to the basket. Chris You was cited for his work off the bench.
Zach Allton led Ocosta (0-2, 2-2) with 25 points, Paul Bjornsgard added 18 points and nine rebounds and Drake Mitby 12 points and eight rebounds.
On Thursday, North Beach travels to Willapa Valley and Ocosta stays home to greet Northwest Christian.

Mary Fultz led all scorers with 15 points for Wishkah, which couldn’t hold off the Montesano C Squad in this non-league contest on Monday afternoon.
Down by four at halftime, the Loggers came out flat in the third quarter as the Bulldgos rolled to a 19-6 frame to take the game over.
“We tried to switch the defense on them when they scored, but we just couldn’t get our legs underneath us,” Wishkah head coach Stefanie Baltzell said. “Overall, the boys played well and we hope to improve as the season moves on.”
Will Fultz and Anthony Fenton each pulled down nine rebounds.

OYEHUT — Ocosta center Kristi Raffelson scored 30 points in the paint to lead the Wildcats past North Beach in this Pacific 2B League game on Monday night.
The Wildcats shut down the Hyaks’ Reilly Moore, keeping her scoreless, to help in the victory. Raffelson finished with 14 rebounds for a double-double.
“That was the plan coming in,” Ocosta head coach Jason Barnum said. “We went into a box-and-one defense to deny Moore the ball and Kathryn Anderson did a great job. Then, we feed the ball to Kristi and it worked.”
“We need to do a better job against (Raffelson) next time,” North Beach head coach Larry Moore said.
Helen Garman finished with a double-double as well in the paint — 18 points and 15 rebounds. Lorin Cox was cited for her work off the bench.

“You don’t see that often,” Wishkah head coach Dave Busz said. “We went man-to-man defense and we made our free throws in the fourth. It was fun.”
