PREP VOLLEYBALL
South Bend 3, Pe Ell 0
For a young team struggling to find positives near season’s end, even moral victories count.
When a moral victory is attached to an actual one, it’s even better.
The South Bend Indians, a young team that has struggled to find wins this season, picked one up on Monday night, defeating Pe Ell in straight sets in the Indians’ home finale.
South Bend (2-11 overall, 2-6 Pacific 2B) played a much more energetic and clean game than it had in the past in its 25-16, 25-16 and 25-22 victory over the Trojans (3-10, 2-6).
Freshman setter Ciara Green and sophomore outside hitter Brittney Jones went perfect from behind the line for the Indians, serving a combined 25-for-25 on the evening.
Sophomore middle blockers Dayna Estle and Reece Williams led the tribe with seven and six kills, respectively, while libero Hannah Jewell and outside hitter Raydynn Morley led South Bend’s defense with nine digs apiece.
South Bend head coach Kelsey Staats was impressed with her team’s improved play on Monday.
“Tonight was a big win for us,” she said. “We had good communication, great hustle and our passing was much better.”
South Bend takes on Life Christian on the road at 6 tonight.
Pe Ell closes out its season at Ocosta at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ocosta seniors Layne Martin and Kianna Morrow lead the Wildcats with eight kills apiece while senior setter Emily Snider, the school’s all-time assist leader, added to her school-record total with 21 assists.
Morrow added eight blocks as the middle blocker and was an intimidating presence against the Warriors (3-9, 1-7 Pacific 2B).
“Kianna had a good night dominating the net, providing both offense and defense above the tape,” Ocosta head coach Barbara Rasmus said.
Senior defenders Daijhia Adams and Sara Packard each went 100% in service for the Wildcats (11-2, 7-1).
Ocosta honored seniors Evalyn Marsh, Snider, Martin, Adams, Morrow, Anastasia Motley, Alexis Reynolds, Hailee Zerby and Sara Packard for playing their final home regular season game.

Raymond 3, Northwest Christian 1
Despite a slow start, the Raymond Seagulls recovered to sweep the final three sets in a 3-1 victory over Northwest Christian on Monday in Lacey.
Raymond (8-5, 6-2 Pacific 2B) took some time recovering from the road trip and lost the first set 25-15 before responding to win sets two through four by scores of 25-14, 31-29 and 25-17.
“We basically hadn’t even got off the bus for the first set,” Raymond head coach Bob Swogger said. “However, we were able to get things going at the end of the set and played decently. We dug ourselves a hole in the third set and actually came from behind to win it.”
Tina Sypaphay led Raymond with 13 kills followed by Sidney Swogger’s six kills.
Grace Busenius added five kills and five blocks for the Seagulls and Tegen Fluery was noted by Coach Swogger for her defensive play.
“Tegen Fleury had a great night for us and had some significant digs at key moments to keep the momentum on our side,” he said. “Because of her good play she was able to frustrate NWC’s best hitter all night long.”
Raymond sits in a tie for third place with Ilwaco in the league standings and will host the Fishermen at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
