After opening the season with a three-game losing streak, Ocosta has won two straight after downing North Beach 59-37 on Monday in Ocean Shores.
After a low-scoring first quarter that saw Ocosta take an 8-5 lead, the Wildcats (2-3, 1-2, 2B Pacific) got hot in the second period with a 10-0 run to stretch its lead to 28-15 by halftime.
Holding a 37-25 lead after a low-scoring third quarter, Ocosta’s defense forced turnovers that turned into transition baskets to extend its lead in the final period.
Kayden Turner sparked Ocosta in the fourth, hitting three 3-pointers to score nine of his 15 points in the period.
Xander Prigmore scored 15 points for Ocosta to go along with seven points and four steals in another consistent effort.
Senior Josh Figueroa had seven points and a team-high 14 rebounds and four assists while Mark Lewis had 11 points, three rebounds and two steals for the Wildcats.
“Overall, I was pleased with our defensive intensity and am looking forward to the next couple of practices where we can clean some things up on offense and defense,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said.
North Beach (0-4, 0-2) was led by senior Aiden Niiranen and junior Tyrell Hovland with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Ocosta hosts South Bend at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Willapa Valley 62, South Bend 24
Willapa Valley played good defense en route to a 62-24 win over South Bend on Monday in at Koplitz Field House in South Bend.
The Vikings (4-1 overall) won Monday’s non-league matchup by holding South Bend (0-3) to just five points in the first half, zero in the the second quarter.
Willapa Valley missed some high-percentage shots in the first quarter, but heated up in the second period, outscoring South Bend 21-0 in the frame to take a commanding 35-5 lead at halftime.
“We missed a bunch of shots in the first quarter. … In the second quarter, we made ‘em,” Vikings head coach John Peterson said. “We’re doing some good stuff and we’re playing pretty good defense.”
Vikings star senior Grace Huber continues to make an early-season case for an all-state nod with a game-high 21 points on 10-of-22 (45%) shooting and nine rebounds.
Junior Lauren Emery had 14 points while freshman Rilyn Channell had 11 points, with both hitting three 3-pointers in the game as Willapa Valley shot 46% from beyond the arc on 6-of-13 shooting.
Peterson said he was pleased with the play of Emery and Channell after switching their roles ahead of the game, with Channell slotted in the starting role while Emery came off the bench as the sixth-man.
“I think it worked out fine,” he said. “I just kind of rolled the dice because we were really struggling at one point. … They both can shoot the ball pretty well and they did tonight.”
Vikings senior Brooklyn Patrick had 13 of her team’s 20 steals to lead the Willapa Valley defense.
The Vikings play at Three Rivers Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
South Bend plays at Ocosta at 7 p.m. on Friday.
