CHEHALIS — Montesano’s Samantha Stanfield pitched a 1-hitter as the Bulldogs defeated Chehalis 5-0 in a non-league game on Monday.
The Bulldogs (20-3) were able to take advantage of their opportunities to manufacture five runs on just six hits to win the showdown between the District IV 1A champion, Montesano, and the District IV 2A champion Bearcats. It was the first time the Bulldogs have defeated Chehalis in the 21 years Pat Pace has been the head coach at Montesano.
Stanfield struck out five as she shut the door on Chehalis.
“Sam threw another good game and her defense was rock solid behind her today,” Pace said. “Knowing that Chehalis is such a good program and they have a good team, it is a pretty good feeling watching our girls compete with them and walk away with the victory. It kind of puts it into perspective of the possibilities that are out there for us next weekend.”
Montesano will face Zillah in the first round of the State 1A softball tournament in Richland on Friday.
