Two Montesano Bulldogs shot below 40 in a 169-209 victory over Hoquiam on Thursday at Oaksridge Golf Course in Elma.
Colton Grubb and Ayhdn Sauer earned co-Medalist of the Match honors as each Bulldog shot a 39 over nine holes of golf.
Grubb’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 No. 8 hole while Sauer birdied the par-4 2nd hole.
Jovanni Guarisco and Caden Grubb shot a 45 and 46, respectively to complete Monte’s total score.
Hoquiam was led by Noah Taylor’s score of 50 with Damon Cole (51), Sebastian Matsen (54) and Ronald Landon (54) earning a spot on the Grizzlies’ final scoreboard.
Monte’s JV team won 174-215, led by Rufus Krasowski’s 40.
“What a great day it was. Our boys played some of their best golf and are in great shape heading into the postseason,” Montesano head coach Tyler Grajek said. “Both Colton and Ayhdn played lights out and led our charge as co-medalists. I would also like to give our JV squad some props as they came in with multiple personal records. Everyone had a fantastic day on the course and we rounded it out by celebrating our two seniors. Could not ask for a much better Senior Night. Really proud of our kids and their efforts today. Now, we set our sights ahead to the league and district tournaments.”
Hoquiam head coach Chase Taylor said he continued to see improvement from his inexperienced team on Thursday.
“Noah Taylor, Daymond Cole and Sebastian Matsen have continued to decrease their scores and play a more well-rounded game,” he said. “With all our golfers experiencing the game for the first time this season, it has been fun to watch them continue to compete, overcome challenges and grow from it.”
The 1A District 4 Championships are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course in Tumwater.
