MONTESANO — Montesano head coach Pat Pace has been waiting for his lineup to slug a big inning and his patience was rewarded on Tuesday afternoon.
On a wet afternoon on the Rottle Field turf, the Bulldogs pummelled Castle Rock’s two pitchers in a 13-run second inning to spearhead a 19-9, five-inning non-league softball victory.
Annie Cristelli led the Montesano hit parade with three hits, including a home run, a double and two RBI. Allyssa Gustafson drove in four runs on three hits, including a double, and was joined by Peyton Polar’s two doubles and three RBI.
Josie Toyra, Hannah Quinn and Samantha Stanfield all drove in two runs as well.
“The bats woke up,” Pace said. “Today, Castle Rock didn’t have an answer for them. They threw two really good pitchers and the girls were on fire. All nine starters had at least one hit. We’ve been expecting some of thaat firepower. We’d take half of that in the next game, but we’d love to see the bats continue.”
Lindsay Pace picked up the win in the circle, striking out four and walking seven. The Rockets led 5-4 after 1 1/2 innings before the Bulldogs put up 13 in the bottom of the second.
On Tuesday, Montesano (5-1 overall) will return from Spring Break with a doubleheader road trip to Forks.
