TUMWATER — Five of Montesano’s six golfers all made the cut for a shot at a state berth after the first day of the District IV 1A-2B girls golf tournament at Tumwater Valley Golf Course on Monday afternoon.
Five Bulldogs, led by Macey Wecker’s 90, highlight a very good day — despite the wet and sloppy conditions — on the course. All five Monte golfers are in the top-eight spots.
The cutline was 121, sending the top-15 (plus ties) golfers into today’s final round at Tumwater Valley. Montesano, Hoquiam and Elma will all be represented in the final round, with the top-nine finishers qualifying for the state tournament next week at Horn Rapids Golf Course in Richland.
“We have been really consistent as a team all year and that showed once again today,” Montesano head coach Lloyd Aldrich said. “Macey is in a battle for first place, but she has been working hard all year to prepare herself, so I am confident that she will come out strong tomorrow. McKenna played one of her best rounds of golf today. Glory and Mylaina have surpassed expectations as first-year golfers. Lauren is in a great spot in her first time competing at districts. If we can find a way to replicate what we did on the course today, we should have a handful of players moving on to the state tournament next week.”
Ilwaco’s Aslyn Fisher leads the tournament with an 87, two strokes better than La Center’s Taylor Entenman. Wecker is third at 90.
