The Ocosta Wildcats girls soccer team kicked off the truncated prep season with a convincing 4-0 shutout over Winlock on Monday in Westport.
Eighth-grader Maddie Schaeffer got things going for the Cats in the 12th minute, scoring the first goal of the season when she scored from point-blank range after stealing the ball from a Winlock defender.
Ocosta (1-0 overall) doubled its lead two minutes later when Schaeffer assisted on a goal by sophomore Meghan Denny.
Denny scored her second goal of the evening just before halftime, netting home a feed from sophomore Miki Ness to give Ocosta a 3-0 lead in the 45th minute.
Denny returned the favor in the 55th minute, feeding Ness for the Wildcats’ fourth and final goal of the game.
Ocosta goalkeeper Devyn Martin recorded four saves to get the shutout, assisted by a strong defense led by Maia Soderlund, Trinity White, Gabby Ness and Taeler Jardine.
Ocosta had 27 shot attempts to seven for Winlock.
The Wildcats travel to Adna for a league game on Wednesday.
