OCEAN SHORES – Despite a lack of recent baseball activity, Ocosta’s Wildcats had little difficulty keeping their batting eyes sharp.
The league-leading Wildcats swept North Beach, 23-5 and 20-1, in a Pacific 2B League baseball doubleheader Tuesday at North Bay Park. Both games ended in five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Cole Hatton and Isaac O’Hagan drove in four runs apiece in the opening game. Hatton’s output was highlighted by a three-run homer in the second inning, while O’Hagan stroked a pair of two-run doubles.
The Wildcats (9-1, 10-1) also displayed discipline at the plate. They worked four North Beach pitchers for 23 walks in the two contests while also taking outside pitches to the opposite field.
“I was happy with our approach,” Ocosta coach Mike Allton said. “Playing once a week, it’s hard to stay in rhythm. But they came out and swung the bats well.”
Ocosta batted around three times in the first four innings of the opener. Noah Martin slapped a two-run single and Hatton followed with an RBI double in a five-run first.
Hatton’s three-run blast to center field and the first of O’Hagan’s doubles highlighted an eight-run second.
Hatton and Hayden Hoff combined to hold North Beach (1-3, 2-5) hitless through four frames. Pinch-hitter Nesta Delagne doubled to left field opening the fifth and Nolan Charley drilled a bases-clearing two-bagger down the right-field line later in the inning.
“We’re really young,” Hyak coach Dave Hinchen said. “We haven’t been outside in a week.”
Ocosta’s Cesar Martinez doubled twice, scored four runs and drove in another four in the second game. The Wildcats broke it open with a 12-run fourth.
Zach Allton and Brandon Harnden combined on a two-hitter in this contest.
Steven Sotomish accounted for both North Beach hits with a pair of doubles.
The Wildcats host league rival Life Christian in a non-leaguer on Saturday afternoon. North Beach resumes league play Tuesday at Chief Leschi.
