Elma 10, Tenino 4
Elma snapped a six-game losing streak with a potential season-defining 10-4 win over Tenino on Tuesday at the Elma Ball Fields.
The Eagles (4-8 overall, 2-6 1A Evergreen) took an early 3-0 lead thanks to a Brody Palmer RBI single followed by a two-run error on a ball hit by Bryston Crawford in the bottom of the first inning.
The Eagles lost the led late in the game when the second-ranked Beavers (11-3, 4-3) scored four runs in the top of the sixth on four singles, three walks and a sacrifice fly to take a 4-3 lead.
But rather than wilt, the Eagles blossomed. Elma responded with seven runs in the bottom half of the frame, tying the game on an RBI double by infielder Jack Alexander and took a 5-4 lead on a Brody Palmer single to drive in Ethan Camus.
Later in the frame, a two-run Tenino error capped the inning with Elma up 10-4.
Palmer came in to pitch the seventh and struck out the side, giving Elma its first win since April 4.
“We flushed the last two weeks and came out ready to play Elma baseball tonight,” Elma head coach Austin Neary said. “Could not be more proud of each and everyone one of these kids.”
Camus started the game and went 5 1-3 innings, allowing four earned runs on three walks and six hits with five strikeouts.
Troy Rupe earned the win after getting two outs to end the sixth before giving way to Palmer, who pitched a 1-2-3 seventh.
Elma had 13 hits in the game, led by Palmer, who went 3 for 4 with a run and two RBI.
Alexander, Crawford and Cole Gustafson also had multi-hit games with two hits apiece.
“I’m really proud of this guys,” Neary said. “We did the little things at the plate to get the big win.”
