Montesano completed a season sweep over its East County rival with a 6-2 win against Elma on Friday in Montesano.
The Bulldogs (16-1, 10-0 1A Evergreen) pulled away from Elma (8-7, 4-5) with four runs in the fourth inning and held the Eagles to just three base hits in the game.
Monte took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when shortstop Bode Poler scored on a wild pitch followed by pitcher John Kling driving in Kaleb Ames with a fielder’s choice ground out.
Elma responded with a run in the top of the second when Jack Alexander was hit by a Kling pitch with the bases loaded.
The Bulldogs opened up a 6-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI single from catcher Delani Harris followed by two-run home run to right by the red-hot Poler.
Carter Studer pushed across Eastin Wright in the top of the fifth with a single, cutting Monte’s lead to 6-2.
But that’s all the runs Elma would score as Kling combined with reliever Jackson Busz to hold the Eagles to one earned run on three hits.
Monte holds a two-game lead over Tenino for the top spot in the 1A Evergreen League. The two teams will meet for a key doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Montesano, with the league title on the line.
Elma is locked into the league’s No. 3 spot and will host Adna in a non-league game at 4 p.m. on Monday.
