Elma’s Carter Studer made history as we review a weekend full of Twin Harbors prep baseball games.
Tenino 3, Elma 2
Elma lost a 3-2 pitcher’s duel to Tenino in the first game of a double header on Saturday in Elma.
The Eagles (9-5 overall, 5-3 1A Evergreen) and Beavers (12-2, 6-1) were tied at 1-1 after TJ Dunlap singled to score Eastin Wright in the bottom half of the first inning.
It wasn’t until the top of the sixth inning that Tenino would take a lead with a pair of unearned runs off Elma reliever Grant Vessey.
Elma rallied for a run in the sixth when Brody Palmer scored on an error.
That was as close as Elma would get against Beavers starter and Oregon commit Kellen Knox, who allowed two unearned runs on three hits and three walks with 14 strikeouts to pick up the win.
Vessey took the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in two innings pitched.
Brody Palmer started on the hill for the Eagles, allowing an unearned run on two hits and seven walks with four strikeouts in a five-inning no decision.

Elma 3, Tenino 2

The Eagles right-hander allowed two unearned runs in pitching a complete-game no-hitter, allowing three walks while striking out four in the history-making effort.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Elma took a 2-1 lead on RBI singles by third baseman Bo Mueller and right fielder Brody Palmer.
Tenino tied the game off Studer in the top of the seventh when Austin Gonia, on board after a leadoff error, crossed the plate with two outs to tie the game at 2-2.
Elma’s defense committed three errors total in the inning.
But the Eagles weren’t about to let the Beavers spoil Studer’s effort. Elma second baseman Cole Gustafson reached on an error to leadoff the bottom of the seventh and advanced to second with one out on an Eastin Wright single.
Two batter later, Gustafson crossed the dish with the game-winning run on a TJ Dunlap sacrifice fly to center field, securing the victory for Studer and the Eagles.
Studer allowed three walks and struck out four in the win, throwing 68 strikes out of 108 pitches (63%).

Hoquiam 6, Eatonville 4
A late-inning rally led to Hoquiam’s 6-4 victory over Eatonville in the first game of a double header on Saturday in Eatonville.
The Grizzlies (3-11, 1-9 1A Evergreen) led 2-0 after a run in the first on a Riley Montoure RBI double and a run in the fourth when Zander Jump was hit by a pitch to force in Zander Harder.
Eatonville (2-8, 1-6) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 4-2 lead on a Michael Stogsdill two-run double.
The Grizzlies responded with six runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by Chris Bryson’s two-run double and assisted by two Cruiers errors in the inning.
After Bryson’s double made it a 5-4 game for Hoquiam, Bryson came in to score the Grizzlies’ sixth run on an error.
That was enough for Montoure, who worked around a one-out walk in the sixth and retired the first two batters in the seventh before giving way to reliever Joey Bozich, who got the final out to earn the save.
Left fielder Chase Shumate (2-4) and right fielder Ethan McLucas (2-2, R) had two hits apiece for Hoquiam.

A Hoquiam rally to take a lead late in the game was spoiled in a 9-8 loss to Eatonville in the nightcap of a double header on Saturday in Eatonville.
Hoquiam trailed 6-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning.
The Grizzlies clawed back into the game with a run in the fifth on a Riley Montoure single and three in the sixth capped by a Chris Bryson two-run single.
Hoquiam would take a lead in its final at-bat, scoring four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh, earning an 8-7 advantage on a Bryson two-run single.
But the lead, and the victory, would slip away in the bottom of the seventh.
Bryson, who came on in relief of Joey Bozich with one out in the fourth, got the first out in the seventh before a walk and a single put the tying and winning runs on base.
Aaron Tozier then doubled to right field on the first pitch he saw, scoring Payton Hanly and Michael Stogsdill to give Eatonville the walk-off victory.
