It was tough sledding for local Twin Harbors teams in the first round of the boys and girls 2B District 4 Tournaments on Saturday.
Here’s a rundown of the first-round action.
2B DISTRICT 4 BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Toledo 60, Raymond 49
Raymond rallied to take a lead but couldn’t hold it in a 60-49 loss to Toledo in the first round of the 2B District 4 Tournament on Saturday in Montesano.
The Seagulls (11-10 overall) struggled to put points on the board through the first half, trailing 24-18 at halftime, and fell behind by 10 points midway through the third quarter.
“We went back into some bad habits from earlier in the season and struggled to get into a rhythm,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “Luckily, we were playing well defensively, so we were able to stay in striking distance.”
The Gulls rallied to trim the Toledo lead 40-36 by the end of the third quarter and held a brief 42-40 lead early in the fourth quarter.
But defensive breakdowns led to a Toledo run as the Riverhawks (14-8) pulled away down the stretch for the victory.
Raymond was led by guard Chris Quintana, who scored a game-high 20 points, and center Talan Yearout, who had six points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
The Seagulls shot 20 of 47 from the field (42.5%) and took care of the ball with just eight turnovers in the game.
Toledo had three players score in double figures and shot a near-identical 20 for 48 (42%).
The Riverhawks shot 21 free throws, converting 14 (67%) while Raymond hit 6 of 11 from the charity stripe (54.5%).
“I’m proud of the effort we showed,” Tully said. “Hopefully, we can bounce back and keep our season alive.”
The Seagulls face the loser of the Toutle Lake-Chief Leschi quarterfinal in an elimination game at 6 p.m. on Friday at Rochester High School.
Toledo 14 10 16 20 – 60
Raymond 6 12 18 13 – 49

Adna 62, Ocosta 41
Too much pressure and too few buckets led to Ocosta’s 62-41 loss to Adna in the first round of the 2B District 4 Tournament on Saturday in Montesano.
The Wildcats (7-14) struggled against the pressure applied by the Pirates (16-6).
“Adna did a good job of pressuring us on the ball all game long and we just didn’t do a good enough job of scoring inside to relieve the pressure on the outside,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “We had a few lapses on our press which allowed Adna to get some easy buckets, but for the most part, we did a great job of pressuring them full court and forcing some turnovers, which a lot of the time we were unable to convert.”
Adna extended its lead to 20 points before an Ocosta run trimmed the deficit to 12 points in the fourth quarter.
But a Pirates three followed by a steal and score put the game away, sending Ocosta to the elimination rounds.
“Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased with our effort as our guys played their butts off,” Quinby said. “We just struggled to keep pace offensively with Adna and that was the difference in the game.”
Tarren Lewis led Ocosta with 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Wildcats went 15 for 54 from the field (28%), including 6 of 21 from 3-point range (28.5%).
Ocosta had 29 rebounds as a team – 14 offensive – and committed 18 turnovers.
The Wildcats will play the loser of the Forks-Napavine quarterfinal in an elimination game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rochester High School.
Ocosta 10 8 9 14 – 41
Adna 17 12 17 16 – 62

Toledo 69, Ocosta 37

The Wildcats (8-10) fell behind early after the Riverhawks (12-8) scored 22 points to put Ocosta in a 15-point hole after one quarter.
Despite another huge game from sophomore standout Anna Davis (19 points, 21 rebounds, 8-16 FG) and solid numbers from senior center Alexia Bradley (10 pts., 7 reb.), Ocosta scored just 10 points in each of the final three quarters to suffer the 69-37 loss.
