Montesano 57, Raymond-South Bend 40

Montesano jumped out to a big lead en route its fourth-straight win with a 57-40 victory over Raymond-South Bend on Monday at Montesano High School.

The Bulldogs (6-6 overall) used a pressure defense to open the game on a 16-0 run against what Raymond-South Bend head coach Jon Schray said was a “really sluggish” opening frame from his team.

“We let their pressure frazzle us in the first quarter,” Schray said.

Ocosta 66, Pe Ell 50

Playing for the first time in two-and-a-half weeks, Ocosta overcame a poor start to defeat Pe Ell 66-50 on Monday in Westport.

The Wildcats (5-3) scored just nine points in the first quarter but erupted to outscore the Trojans (5-4) 21-9 in the second period, with senior guard Dalton Welch scoring seven points in the frame.

“We missed a ton of close-in shots and had way too many turnovers to start the game,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “In the second quarter, we went to a full-court press to try and gain some momentum and that worked out well as we were able to get out and put some easy buckets on the board. Dalton Welch and Luis Solis combined together to get us going in the right direction.”

Ocosta outscored Pe Ell 36-30 in a second half that saw both teams find success in the half-court offense.

The Wildcats shot 38.5% from the floor on 25-of-65 shooting and were led by Welch and freshman post Sonny Beard with 15 points apiece.

Beard led Ocosta on the boards with 14 rebounds to record a double-double with Welch adding a team-best four steals to his stat line.

The Wildcats host Naselle in a 1B Coastal League game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
