Montesano and Aberdeen suffered league losses as we review Tuesday’s prep basketball games on the Harbor.

BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

Tenino 59, Montesano 46

Poor shooting and too many turnovers led to Montesano’s 59-46 loss in its 1A Evergreen League opener against Tenino on Tuesday at Tenino High School.

The Bulldogs (9-2 overall, 0-1 1A Evergreen) held as much as a nine-point lead early in the first quarter, but saw the Beavers (8-4, 1-0) rally to trim Monte’s lead to 28-27 at halftime.

Monte trailed by two at 36-34 in the third quarter, but saw Tenino stretch the lead to nine as the Beavers ran the court for several transition buckets.

That trend continued in the fourth quarter, as Tenino’s lead ballooned to as much as 17 points in the final minutes of the game.

Monte went 17 for 52 from the floor (33%) – including 6 for 27 in the second half (22%) – with 14 turnovers and was outrebounded 39-22, leading to extra shot opportunities for the Beavers.

“We played a great first half. I thought our defense in the first half was excellent. … We just didn’t shoot real well tonight and they outrebounded us. … They got a lot of second and third-shot opportunities,” Montesano head coach Leonard Barnes said. “It really came down to us. We struggled on offense in the second half. We made some turnovers and just didn’t shoot it well and that was our demise.”

Monte was led by senior forwards Tyce Peterson (15 points) and Gabe Bodwell (13 points).

The Bulldogs host Eatonville in a league game scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.

Aberdeen scored no more than seven points in any quarter en route to a 62-22 loss on Tuesday in Aberdeen.

The Bobcats (3-7, 2-3 2A Evergreen) made just eight field goals in the game and scored five points in three of four quarters in the 2A Evergreen Conference loss.

W.F. West’s Tyler Klatush scored a game-high 24 points to outscore the Bobcats on his own.

Aberdeen takes on Shelton in a league game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Shelton High School.

GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

Forks 75, Ocosta 37

Ocosta had no answers for first-place Forks in a 75-37 loss on Tuesday in Westport.

The Wildcats (4-6, 2-3 2B Pacific) trailed 52-12 by halftime after giving up 26 points in each of the first two quarters to the Spartans (10-3, 4-0).

Ocosta shot 36% from the floor on 16-of-44 shooting and committed 30 turnovers in the game.

Senior post Alexia Bradley led the Wildcats with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Ocosta sophomore post Anna Davis had 13 points and eight boards.

The Wildcats take on Raymond-South Bend in a 2B Pacific League game at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10 in South Bend.
