Rainier 68, Aberdeen 16
Coming off a long break against a good team turned out to be a bad recipe for Aberdeen in a 68-16 loss to Rainier on Thursday at Aberdeen High School.
Playing for the first time in 16 days, the Bobcats (2-4) found little in the way of offense against the Mountaineers (8-1), which had no such problems.
Aberdeen was shut out in two quarters of the game – the second and fourth periods – while scoring eight points in each of the first and third frames.
The Bobcats didn’t attempt a free throw in the game.
“We even stressed to attack the basket so we could get to the free-throw line, but we never did,” Aberdeen head coach Curtis Eccles said. “We faced a really good all-around team. Passing, shooting, they played very well tonight.”
Aberdeen was led by guard Bentley Brown with six points and had 27 turnovers in the game as a team, the bulk of those coming in the first half with 22.
The Cats host Aberdeen at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Rainier 25 17 19 7 – 68
Aberdeen 8 0 8 0 – 16
Scoring: Rainier – Swenson 22, Askey 17, Blackburn 15, Bravo 8, Beckman 4. Aberdeen – Brown 6, D. Shoemaker 4, Knutson 2, Mainio 2, S. Shoemaker 2.
