With the regular season winding down, Twin Harbors teams are vying for playoff position and tuning up for the postseason as we review Tuesday’s prep hoops games.
BOYS PREP BASKETBALL
Montesano 63, North Beach 25
Montesano extended its winning streak to five games with a 63-25 victory over North Beach on Tuesday at Montesano High School.
The Bulldogs (13-4 overall) wasted little time taking control of the game early by holding the Hyaks (7-14) to just two points on a Jade Charley field goal in the first quarter.
Monte led 32-6 at the half and had the game well in hand after a 23-10 third quarter, paced by seven points from senior forward Cam Taylor and six steals as a team.
The Bulldogs defense had 38 rebounds and 16 steals as a team.
“The kids played phenomenal,” Monte head coach Leonard Barnes said. “Our rebounding was definitely the major factor. We rebounded really well and played great defense tonight. … We talked about going and getting the ball and they just went and got the ball.”
Monte was led by senior forward Tyce Peterson with 12 points followed by Gabe Bodwell and Taylor with 11 points and six rebounds apiece.
Bulldogs senior Carter Crites had one of his best games of the season with nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Monte went 28 of 57 from the field (37%) and had 18 assists as a team.
Jade Charley scored six points to lead a North Beach team that has dropped five of its past six games.
North Beach faces Ocosta at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Aberdeen High School.
Monte plays at Hoquiam in the 1A Evergreen League finale at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Hoquiam 80, Eatonville 63
Despite its leading scorer being held to two points, Hoquiam’s offense erupted for its second-highest point total of the season in a 80-63 win over Eatonville on Tuesday at Eatonville High School.
The Grizzlies (9-9, 3-4 1A Evergreen) trailed 22-17 after the first quarter as six different Cruisers (5-10, 0-7) scored in the frame.
Hoquiam flipped the script on the second period, outscoring Eatonville 23-8 in the quarter paced by 15 points from senior forward Zander Jump.
The Grizzlies dominated the third quarter 25-14, led by Chance LaBounty’s nine points, to take a commanding 65-44 advantage into the final period.
Hoquiam went 32 for 67 from the field (48%) and dominated the boards 58-22, including 23-8 on the offensive glass.
Jump led the way with a huge game, scoring 30 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
LaBounty had the biggest game of his season with 17 points while center Chris Bryson had a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
“(Eatonville) came out and decided that (freshman guard) Lincoln (Niemi) wasn’t going to beat them tonight and had one guy, sometimes two, chasing him all night,” said Hoquiam head coach Jeff Niemi, who stated that opened up chances for other players. “Zander Jump took that as an opportunity to dominate the game. … It was just a team effort. Lincoln had two points and we scored 80. That’s pretty cool.”
Hoquiam secured no worse than fourth place in the 1A Evergreen League and has a chance to leapfrog Montesano with a victory over the Bulldogs when the two teams face off at 7 p.m. Friday in Hoquiam.

Willapa Valley 64, WA School for the Deaf 26
Willapa Valley moved into third place in the 1B Columbia Valley League with a 64-26 win over the Washington School for the Deaf on Tuesday in Menlo.
The Vikings (9-9, 8-4 1B CVL) got a big game from sophomore guard Blane King, who scored 25 points to lead all scorers.
“This was a nice win for us at home,” Valley head coach Derek Rask said. “I thought our defensive energy was solid and we executed our game plan well on that end. Once again, our transition game was effective on offense due to our defensive effort.”
Vikings sophomore guard Brody Ritzman (4 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals) and junior forward Connor “Cheese” Keeton (3 pts., 8 reb.) was cited by Rask for their performances in the victory.
Valley went 24 of 54 from the field (44%) and hit 7-of-10 free throws (70%).
Valley sits in third place, a half-game ahead of Columbia Adventist Academy in the league standings.
Valley hosts Mossyrock at 7:15 p.m. on Friday in the league finale.

GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL
Elma 58, Tenino 25
Elma locked up no worse than third place in the 1A Evergreen League with a 58-25 win over Tenino on Tuesday at Tenino High School.
The Eagles (7-9, 4-3 1A Evergreen) had little troubles handling last-place Tenino (2-19, 0-8), putting the game away by halftime with a 52-14 lead thanks to 14 points from junior shooting guard Mia Monroe.
Monroe finished with a game-high 17 points while senior forward Eliza Sibbett added 10 points for the Eagles, which shot 37% on 21-of-57 shooting from the floor.
The Eagles also hit 10-of-16 free throws in the game (63%).
Elma closes out the regular season against Eatonville at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Elma.

Hoquiam’s playoff spot is set after a 66-21 loss to Eatonville on Tuesday in Eatonville.
The Grizzlies (4-15, 2-5 1A Evergreen) struggled to score, managing 13 points in the first half and were held scoreless in the fourth quarter against the Cruisers (11-4, 5-2).
Post player Sydney Gordon led Hoquiam with six points, but 35 Grizzlies turnovers and 30 offensive rebounds for the Cruisers spelled doom for Hoquiam.
“We were in the land of giants today,” Hoquiam head coach Chad Allan said. “To add to our year long challenge of 35 turnovers, we gave them extra opportunities with 30 offensive rebounds.”
Hoquiam is locked in at the 1A Evergreen League’s fourth and final playoff spot and will face Montesano in the regular-season finale at 7 p.m. Thursday in Montesano.
