119th Myrtle Street Rivalry
Hoquiam at Aberdeen
When and where: 7 p.m. Friday at Stewart Field, Aberdeen
Players to watch: Hoquiam – Joey Bozich QB/LB, A.J. Young LT/DL, Kingston Case RB/FS, Winston Kaikaka RB/LB, Lincoln Niemi TE/DL. Aberdeen – Micah Schroeder RB/LB, Mason Hill QB/S, Luke Martin QB/DB, Legend Vessey RB/LB, Adonis Hammonds WR/DB.
One of the state’s most cherished rivalries will be on display Friday evening when Hoquiam takes on host Aberdeen for the 119th Myrtle Street Rivalry at Stewart Field.
Neither team has been lighting the gridiron on fire so far this season as the Bobcats (0-3 overall) and Grizzlies (1-2) are both are going through some growing pains through the first half of the season.
Hoquiam has some momentum coming into the game after picking up their first win of the season against Raymond-South Bend last week, one in which Grizzlies quarterback Joey Bozich passed for over 200 yards and four touchdowns while running back Kingston Case eclipsed 100 rushing yards.
By contrast, Aberdeen is still searching for answers after a 26-point loss to Rochester in a game where the Bobcats offense moved the ball well between the 20s, but had drives stall out in the red zone time and again.
That can all change with a fifth-straight victory over Hoquiam under head coach Todd Bridge, whose teams have won by an average score of 36.5-4 over their past four meetings.
While recent history has favored the Bobcats in the rivalry – including a 36-0 win last season and 40-0 blowout two years ago – the two have played pretty evenly over the past 20 years as Aberdeen has a slight 10-9 edge over that time.
Before its current four-game losing streak, Hoquiam had run off five wins in a row and seven of eight against the Bobcats dating back to 2011.
Tickets are available online through the Aberdeen High School website (asd5.org) and parking in and around Stewart Field is likely to fill up quick for the game, so get there early and enjoy a game that embodies all that is and has been great about a true longtime prep football rivalry.

Napavine at Montesano
When and where: 7 p.m. Friday at Jack Rottle Field, Montesano
Players to watch: Napavine – Grady Wilson QB, Caleb Von Pressentin RB, Cayle Kelly RB. Montesano – Tyson Perry QB/LB, Gabe Pyhala RB/LB, Mason Rasmussen WR/LB, Terek Gunter RB/DB.
If it weren’t for the Myrtle Street Rivalry, the featured game this week on the Harbor would be in Montesano.
Two perennial state powers clash when Montesano hosts Napavine in a non-league matchup likely to garner attention from across the state.
That due to both teams’ ability to find themselves deep in their respective state playoffs on a consistent basis.
Montesano (1-2) appeared to get its groove back last week with a blowout win over 2A class Black Hills, paced by two 90-plus touchdown kickoff returns by senior receiver Mason Rasmussen in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs will have to be sharp against Napavine (2-1), last season’s 2B state runner-up and a team coming off a 55-24 drubbing over Cedar Park Christian a week ago. In that game, the Tigers gained 436 total yards – rushing for 329 yards as a team – while the defense allowed just 10 yards on the ground.
This is the first meeting between the two state powers since 2021, where Napavine scored a late touchdown to beat the Bulldogs 56-47.

Elma at King’s
When and where: 7 p.m. Friday at King’s High School, Seattle
Players to watch: Elma – Isaac McGaffey QB/S, Ethan Camus WR/DB, Traden Carter RB/LB; Bo Muller RB/LB.
Elma looks to rebound after its first loss of the season when the Eagles travel to face King’s on Friday in Seattle.
Elma (1-2) hit a bump in the road with last week’s loss to Sequim and will look to get quarterback Isaac McGaffey and company back on track against a young Knights team that has struggled this season.
The Eagles managed just 119 yards of offense, had 10 penalties and were just 1 for 14 on third and fourth down conversions in the loss.
King’s (0-3) has losses on the season to Orting (34-14), Cascade Christian (37-18) and Nooksack Valley (47-20).
If Elma can regain the offensive efficiency in its passing attack that led to wins the first two weeks of the season, the Eagles can find themselves in the win column once again.

Raymond-South Bend at Adna
When and where: 7 p.m. Friday at Adna High School
Players to watch: RSB – Chris Quintana QB/DB, Chris Banker RB/LB, Isaac Schlueter RB/LB. Adna – Beau Miller RB, Layden York QB, Luke Mohney RB.
Raymond-South Bend opens league play with a matchup against the Adna Pirates on Friday in Adna.
After opening the season with a win, the Ravens (1-2) have dropped two straight games despite having three solid runners in quarterback Chris Quintana and running backs Chris Banker and Isaac Schlueter.
Adna jumped on Tenino for a 12-0 first-quarter lead before falling 22-19 to Tenino last week.
Pirates running back Beau Miller carried the ball 24 times for 101 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.
When Raymond-South Bend are on their game, the three-headed hydra of Quintana, Schlueter and Banker run wild on opposing defenses.
The Ravens will have to have plenty of that against an Adna team that appears to be better than their 1-2 record shows.

Lake Roosevelt vs. Pe Ell-Willapa Valley
When and where: 3 p.m. Saturday at Ellensburg High School
Players to watch: Lake Roosevelt – Terrell Bush RB/DB, Wyatt Egbert QB/LB, Ivan Alejandre RB/LB. PWV – Nathan Fluke QB/S, Cody Strozyk RB/MLB, Connor “Cheese” Keeton OL/DL; Lucas Lusk RB/LB.
The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley Titans may get a bit of a reprieve in the schedule when they face Lake Roosevelt at a neutral site on Saturday.
The Titans (1-2) are coming off two straight losses including last week’s 48-29 loss to Toledo in a game where they lost a 23-6 first-half lead.
The winless Raiders (0-3) lost 40-16 to Brewster last week, allowing 303 yards, 241 on the ground.
In that game, Lake Roosevelt was able to move the ball, mostly behind speedy running back Beau Miller and an offensive line that led to 187 rushing yards.
If quarterback Nathan Fluke and running backs Cody Strozyk and Lucas Lusk can put a full four quarters of football together, PWV could earn its second win of the season.
